The Security Services Department's overall mission is to ensure a safe and secure environment and protect MIT Lincoln Laboratory at all facilities in which staff members perform their mission of research and development. To accomplish this mission, this department formulates and implements policies, plans, and actions designed to protect facilities against threats of vandalism, accidental destruction, and sabotage; and safeguards personnel, classified and unclassified information systems, personal identifiable information, property, and other assets from exploitation and recruitment by foreign intelligence agencies.
IT Business Analyst – IT Services I
Selected candidate will contribute to the Security Applications and Systems (SAS) team responsible for the Security Services Department enterprise-wide suite of hardware and software applications. Responsibilities of the IT Business Analyst role are supporting core Security applications and systems with the 24x7 physical Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Security Information Management Systems (SIMS), and PassagePoint visitor control system. This includes data auditing and reporting, business process improvement, identifying root causes to any data integrity issues, monitoring all intersystem data integration points, and troubleshooting user or application/database level issues.
Position requires effectively communicating issues/resolutions verbally and in writing as well as having the ability to define and resolve problems in a timely manner. Individual will assist in supporting library of documentation for systems and business processes, plus assist with resolution of software and client/server related issues when needed. Position requires interactions with external software vendors for technical support to troubleshoot problems, prepare for software upgrades, and request future application changes to align to Laboratory needs. This position works closely with business stakeholders and system users to deliver high quality, customer-focused solutions and support services that provide substantial value to the department.
The individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and execute project and administrative tasks with a high degree of quality, while following existing processes and establishing new operational procedures and best practices where necessary. Additionally, the position requires the ability to work with members of other teams and staff to meet all necessary department and organizational goals. A moderate degree of scheduling flexibility is required, as some work must be done outside of normal business hours during pre-scheduled maintenance windows.
A minimum of 3 years of technical IT experience supporting various information systems
Proven business analyst qualities and strong analytical skills, with expertise in Microsoft Excel
Familiarity with database concepts and structures, as well as knowledge of one or more Database Management Systems
Experience in writing requirements documents for functionality enhancements, fixes, or software application requests
Familiarity with SQL query language to support daily reporting and auditing needs
Experience with reporting tools such as SAP Crystal Reports
Proven capacity to understand the functions of new information systems in a timely manner
Demonstrated experience supporting projects with increasing levels of responsibility
BS in IT related field or relevant work experience
Strong understanding of data integration tools, protocols, and concepts to maintain an array of intersystem information transfers
Must have excellent customer service and comprehensive problem solving skills
Self-motivated and a strong desire to learn new applications and technologies
Experience maintaining documentation of processes, procedures, troubleshooting guides, and user reference material
Knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments and scripting is desired
Ability to work independently toward delivery of goals as well as collaborate in team efforts
Demonstrated capabilities in presenting ideas written and orally within a cross-functional environment required
Candidate selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
Must be able to obtain and maintain a government DoD clearance
