The University: The University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) is a primary campus of the
University of Tennessee System. The campus is located in Northwest Tennessee about 125 miles northeast of Memphis and 150 miles northwest of Nashville. The University of
Tennessee at Martin has seen three consecutive years of enrollment growth and has a combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of approximately 7300 students. The emphasis is solidly on excellence in undergraduate instruction. We seek candidates who demonstrate a similar commitment.
The Department: The Department of Engineering offers a comprehensive, innovative undergraduate program, which is ABET accredited, leading to a Bachelor of Science in
Engineering (BSE) degree. Graduates are prepared for practice as professional engineers, have acquired the foundation for maintaining professional competence throughout their careers, and have the skills and experiences needed to move quickly into leadership roles in engineering and management. Engineering enrollment is approximately 250 students and growing. There are ten full-time faculty members, representing civil, electrical, industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, and mechatronic engineering. A new concentration in computer engineering is expected to be approved for the 2020-2021 academic year. This is an exciting time to join the faculty at UTM as work has begun on the new 120,000 square foot
Latimer Engineering and Science Building which will be open in 2022.
Position Description: Two full-time nine-month tenure track positions at the Assistant
Professor or Instructor level in the Department of Engineering, with a specialty in the area of electrical engineering beginning August 2020. Appointment at a senior rank (associate or full professor) may be considered for an exceptional candidate with a distinguished record of achievement in research and teaching. Preference may be given to candidates with expertise in microprocessors and embedded systems design, including both hardware and software, as well as in digital applications, including DSP and digital communications.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following list:
preferred areas of expertise is required for appointment as professor. An earned MS in electrical engineering, or another engineering discipline or scientific discipline with the ability and knowledge to teach electrical engineering classes in the preferred areas of expertise, and broad professional experience (teaching and/or design) is required for appointment as instructor. A B.S. degree from an ABET EAC accredited program is preferred. Demonstrated English communications skills and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching are required. Prior teaching experience, recent electrical engineering design experience, and professional experience are preferred.
Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor or Instructor of Engineering. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
