We are now looking for a Finance Manager to join our New York team.

Position Overview

The Finance Manager is responsible for day to day aspects of financial control and accounting, ensuring the highest standards are maintained across all of the company’s US activities. The position is an important role in managing the overall smooth and accurate running of financial systems and routines. Working closely with the CFO and the central finance team in the UK, this role offers a great opportunity to develop expertise in all aspects of finance and accounting management, including P&L, operations, forecasting, and accounting. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Finance business partner, capable of providing accurate, timely, and value-added operational support, who can thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Major Duties

Execution of month-end, planning and forecasting processes, including journal entries, bank and account reconciliations, and inter-company transactions.
Maintain accountability for proper forecasting, accounting, and recording of transactions consistent with company policies and GAAP.
Oversight of transaction processing including AP (Invoices & T&E), AR (billing & collections), cash management and general ledger maintenance, supported by and in partnership with HQ finance.
Close collaboration with the advertising sales team to provide reporting, analysis, and support.
Execution of Sales Commission planning.
Maintenance and revision of accounting controls and compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Development and implementation of new accounting and office procedures to create an environment of efficiency and excellence.
Support CFO/COO in the creation of accurate and thoughtful financial forecasts and supporting analysis for executive communication.
Review and account for semi-monthly payroll.
Assist with tax preparations.
Manage special projects and analyses.
Lead month-end close and reforecast operation.
Conduct accurate and insightful variance analyses of results vs. budget and prior year periods.
Provide business partnership and support to the commercial and editorial teams.
Coordinate all Internal Audit matters ensuring full support to the Internal Audit department and prompt follow up and implementation of any recommendations.
Qualities
Strong knowledge of Finance and Accounting principles, including financial modeling, budgets and profitability analysis, variance analysis, and financial statements and reporting.
Outstanding judgment, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Intellectually curious, with a desire to understand the reasons behind figures, and a bias toward changing or improving ineffective or inefficient processes.
Highest level of integrity and personal accountability.
Broad understanding of Accounting and Finance best practices, laws, regulations, and industry trends with the ability to conceptualize and recommend pragmatic new strategies, processes, and programs.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to quickly pivot between analytical thought and accounting execution.
Ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues, with the ability to adapt working style accordingly.
Manages and leads through ambiguity and tackles business challenges with a positive, solutions-focused attitude.
Works independently and functions well under pressure, consistently paying attention to accuracy and quality of work.
Takes initiative to add value beyond initial requests by anticipating future questions/follow up requests and proactively resolving them.
Expert proficiency with business and financial systems and applications - Microsoft Office (especially advanced Excel), Google mail/document management, Oracle, - and demonstrated ability to leverage them to drive efficiencies. Demonstrated skill with Excel performing complex data analyses including the effective use of Pivot Tables, V Lookups, and Macros.
Education
Undergraduate degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA preferred.
Experience

4+ years of progressive Accounting/Finance experience required, including exposure to journal entries and executive reporting.
Experience working in the news, publishing, or media industries desirable.
Experience working in a global organization with matrix structures a plus.
