Astellas is announcing an Associate Director, Advanced Analytics opportunity in Northbrook, IL.

Purpose & Scope of Position:
The Associate Director, Advanced Analytics is responsible for providing statistical expertise to multiple stakeholders across Astellas value chain including Market Access, Finance, Portfolio Strategy, Drug Discovery, and Medical and Development. The Associate Director will develop algorithms derived from population modeling and artificial intelligence / machine learning and enable deployment across divisions delivering value from data more rapidly and efficiently. The Associate Director will collaborate with a group of other data scientist for execution of projects, interact with cross functional teams, and be accountable for the statistical accuracy of all project plans, output and deliverables for the assigned projects.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Lead, design and execute advanced analytic projects in collaboration with the AIA's internal teams and external partners across Market Access, Finance, Product Portfolio Strategy Drug Discovery, and Medical and Development projects.
Execute multiple concurrent AIA projects, including but not limited to, developing patient flow models, budget impact models, cost effectiveness models, estimating market dynamics, and calculating patient value using RWD or other data sources across therapeutic areas.
Consult and provide hands-on support to concurrent AIA projects, including but not limited to, market understanding using real world data, time series sales forecasting, cost estimation for trials or other related areas.
Act as a project leader for selected projects assigned to the AIA analytics team and interact closely with other AIA team members during the execution of projects while maintaining balance as an individual contributor.
Develop data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence and/or data modeling plans to support AIA projects and programs.
Contribute to and/or lead the design, assessment and interpretation of AIA data in a statistically relevant context to support data needs for the company's portfolio.
Ensure that statistical analyses are performed in accordance with good statistical practice and applicable guidelines
Provide statistical support for new product licensing and acquisition opportunities for marketed and late-stage compounds.
Provide expertise in building in-house tools to enable rapid, high-quality execution for key routine analytics.

Quantitative Dimensions:
Create AIA's impact in Astellas decision making through the use of analytics
Successfully engage with 2-3 customers on an annually on developing and executing on their analytics strategy
Identify new applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning

Organizational Context:
The Associate Director reports to the Dir Lead Advanced Analytics as an individual contributor. They will collaborate closely with multiple project teams across Astellas functions, geographies and therapeutic areas. The Associate Director will collaborate with the following colleagues across the entire Astellas value chain:

Market Access
corporate planning
Strategic functions - including product, portfolio and commercial strategy
Clinical Development
External: Astellas partners, Vendors

Required Qualifications:
Masters/PhD Degree in Financial Engineering, Predictive Analytics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or Mathematics and at least 7 years relevant experience with at least 2 years in support of pharmaceutical research
Experience in healthcare finance, population modeling, health economics, budget impact models, cost-effectiveness analysis, pharmaceutical pricing.
Experience in commercial analytics such as market sizing, patient life time value, duration of therapy, patient and sales forecasting.
Experience in various types of patient data including insurance claims, electronic medical records, or pharmacy claims and large clinical registries.
Demonstrable experience in generating analytic output relevant to business needs
Experience in working on project teams and managing projects and people within a matrix environment
Advanced and broad knowledge of statistical methodology and strong understanding of industry practices related to the statistical analysis and modeling of clinical data
Experience with processes and procedures in data management
Excellent organizational, people, project and time management skills
Solid oral, written, and presentation communication skills (e.g. able to clearly communicate statistical and epidemiological issues and methods to statisticians and non-statisticians)

Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of common databases such as IQVIA, Optum, Premier, Truven, GE, Symphony, CPRD, European country assets and others.
Experience with SAS, R, Python, Tableau, Qlik, Anylogic and other data analysis and visualization software
Solid knowledge in tool development and automation of analytics in R and Python
Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence tools or methodologies
