Director of Facility Operations

Heinz Field - PSSI Stadium LLC - Pittsburgh, PA

The Director of Facility Operations is responsible for the entire physical stadium including the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety, and building automation systems at Heinz Field. This role will provide leadership and oversight to the team members coordinating all the Heinz Field repairs and maintenance, event conversion, engineering, and event production. The position shall also provide expertise, guidance and support to other Heinz Field and PSSI Stadium departments including large scale capital projects and capital expenditures. The work schedule for this leadership position reflects the events and activities at the stadium and will require flexibility.

  • Reports directly to VP of Stadium Operations and Management
  • Coordinate venue projects, work schedules, and event management with Facility Operations staff
  • Collaborate with team and cross-functional partners in the implementation of preventive maintenance programs, renovations, and expansion projects
  • Actively pursue and develop methods for improving energy efficiency and work efficiently within Heinz Field
  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management
  • Maintain the preventative maintenance program for all HVAC equipment, specialized sound equipment, ice making equipment, special feature lighting systems, other lighting systems, computer controls, sprinkler and fire safety systems and energy management systems within the facility
  • Supervise and direct the efforts of the Mechanical, Facility Operations and Field and Turf teams
  • Monitor and control the affected budget areas related to staffing costs, normal purchases, staff payroll, repairs, equipment replacements, renovations and new materials
  • Work all Pittsburgh Steelers, University of Pittsburgh football games, concerts and other Heinz Field events
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule reflecting the events at the venue, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended work days and extended number of days
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in building, construction or mechanical operations and engineering
  • At least 7 years’ experience in Building Operations or Facility Engineering
  • 5-7 years’ experience with computer control systems
  • 5-7 years’ experience leading and directing with HVAC, Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, and Fitters
  • 5-7 years’ experience working with pneumatic controls, cooling towers, centrifugal pumps, evaporator condenser, recirculation equipment, elevators and escalators
  • Ability to lead, delegate and multi-task in active environment
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, spreadsheets, database, and Internet software
