The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks an Activities & Volunteer Coordinator at The Rodney Kirk Center to develop creative programming and activities that will help older adults age well by staying socially engaged, integrating cultural and arts-related activities, and providing opportunities for residents to volunteer, building a sense of community.
The Rodney Kirk Center is a residence based social services program designed to address the social service and activity needs of older residents of a federally subsidized residential building.
The Activities & Volunteer Coordinator will work under the direction of the Rodney Kirk Center Supervisor and in partnership with other Actors Fund activity programs, located at additional housing sites, to develop activities and programs that will help older residents stay socially engaged and maintain their independence allowing them to ‘age safely’ in place.
This position will be responsible for assessing the interests, skills and needs of senior residents and developing activities that creatively work the mind and body to encourage healthy aging and enable safe “aging-in-place.” These can include cultural arts, social recreation, and other creative/educational activities. The Coordinator will identify and collaborate with community organizations with existing complimentary programs. Activities are facilitated by the Coordinator and/or paid and volunteer group leaders.
This position will also work with all residents to develop inter-generational volunteer activities that address the needs of seniors. The Coordinator will oversee the recruitment of volunteers and implement a screening process to ensure a match between the skills, qualifications and interest of volunteer and program. They will develop orientations and service specific trainings.
Administrative responsibilities will include maintaining the current calendar of events as well as developing and keeping current policies and procedures which will guide the program and reflect the overall values and goals of The Actors Fund. The Coordinator will monitor and ensure volunteer program compliance with all laws relevant to volunteers in the workplace.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of two years of volunteer or activities related experience
- Flexibility and ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships
- Strong computer and organizational skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) required
- Ability to work periodic weekend or evening hours and travel within the NYC area
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

This is a full-time hourly position based at The Rodney Kirk Center in Manhattan Plaza in the Times Square area of New York City.
