IoT Field Engineer - Home Based, North America, preferably West Coast

  • This role will primarily support customers in the North American market, mainly in the US West Coast area.
  • Up to 30% International Travel

Job Summary:
IoT Field Engineers consult with our customers to help them understand the range of silicon and board options available for them, develop and deliver unique applications to best suit their needs, and ensure the security of critical infrastructure. Our customers have tremendously varied goals – from mission critical machines to tiny low-cost devices. We aim to bring the right insights at each stage of the process and to educate the customer so that they are able make effective choices on a wide variety of solutions from IoT, server, desktop and cloud technologies. Most importantly, we aim to help them deliver a comprehensive platform to run all of their IoT devices and meet their business goals.

As an IoT Field Engineer you will:
  • Build strategic relationships with key technology partners and customers working with the latest industry concepts in robotics, AI/ML, container tech and edge computing
  • Conduct yourself as a trusted technical advisor of Ubuntu products and services
  • Gather customer requirements and apply expertise to correctly design the appropriate solution to best meet the customer needs
  • Prepare demos and proof of concepts to demonstrate various use cases for Ubuntu technologies
  • Close new business based upon Canonical technologies, such as Ubuntu Core and Snaps
  • Work in conjunction with Canonical's IoT and Cloud sales, delivery and business development teams to grow existing customer accounts and win new customers
  • Work with internal product teams to help prioritize new feature direction based on customer needs
  • Develop and present technical sales collateral such as presentations, how-to guides and technical competitive documents to project teams
  • Travel for both customer and company meetings with a mix of domestic and international travel - we visit cities like London, Taipei and San Francisco
The successful IoT Field Engineer candidate will have:
  • 5 years experience in enterprise or commercial software development with Linux, preferably with Ubuntu
  • Ability to communicate and present complex technical topics to a variety of audiences both technical and non technical
  • Have a successful history of supporting complex sales cycles involving detailed technical requirements, multiple technical stakeholders and new innovative product designs
  • Ability to understand both customer business challenges and technical issues and effectively communicate how a solution will align to their requirements
  • Experience in deploying IoT solutions – from hardware and operating systems through applications and cloud services
  • Strong background working with security issues in the IoT industry
  • Deep understanding of the Linux Kernel: Modules, BSPs, etc
  • Familiar with x86 and ARM SoC architectures and vendors
  • Experience of selling into verticals such as automotive, robotics, gateway, networking, industrial and digital signage
  • Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation, delivering according to a schedule
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science or a comparable field
