Schwob Steel Services is seeking multiple hires for Metal Building Assemblers in the Metal/Steel Building Construction industry! These roles involve erecting and installing metal/steel beams and structures.
Compensation:
- Metal Building Assembler / Ironworker Level II: $25/hr - $30/hr and up based on experience plus overtime and bonus. 3+ years of experience in metal building structural erection and assembly.
Location: You will be asked to work on the Newport News, VA job site (per diem provided if out of the area). Can be placed on other future jobs.
Hours: Monday to Friday (may change based on weather). Approx. 7 AM to 5:30 PM or later, with overtime pay.
Job Type: Full-time W-2 position with benefits. Non-exempt.

Metal Building Assembler Responsibilities:
- Assist in erecting/building primary and secondary steel structures
- Assist in installing single skin wall panels, insulated metal wall panels, standing seam roofs, metal deck, and similar
- Assist in unloading material and material shakeout/organization
- Follow all OSHA 1926 and Schwob Steel Structures safety guidelines
- Communicate effectively with the project superintendent/foreman
- Participate in all safety and quality training programs
- Depending on level, may assist in detailing drawings
Metal Building Assembler Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to pass a background check
- 2+ years of experience in ironwork or steelwork for metal building erection
- OSHA 10 preferred
- Certified Reach Forklift Operator and/or Aerial Work Platform Operator preferred
- Qualified rigger/signal person preferred
- Must have experience with walking 3-plate rafters, Landing Z purlins, built-in panels
- Must have experience making up Z purlin laps
- Must have experience connecting flange braces
- Must have your own own tools
- Ability to read manufacturer's drawings
- Must be comfortable with aerial work and heights 50-100+ feet (must not be afraid of heights)
- Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship needs
- Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs heights of 100-120+ feet, lift 50lb+ materials, and handle long hours of strenuous work during hot and cold weather
