The Department of Parks and Recreation seeks to fill the Assistant Arena General Manager position for The Show Place Arena at Prince George's Equestrian Center.
As the Assistant Arena General Manager, you will be responsible for effectively supporting the General Manager with efficient implementation of all operational aspects of this year-round, multi-use arena and equestrian operation to include positive client relations, event contract fulfillment, personnel management, maintenance planning and implementation, and risk management. This position serves as a member of the leadership team for the Show Place Arena and Prince George's Equestrian Center and at times may serve as Acting General Manager in the absence of their supervisor.
The salary range for this position is $59,434 - $80,667 annually
Examples of Important Duties
Oversee a career and seasonal staff compliment of 50 employees
Review and approve time cards (Kronos), leave requests, blue slips for missed punches. Follow up on concerns with staff schedule/hours worked
Provide assistance with recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating venue management staff and ensure proper hiring and promotion of Commission standards.
Manage staff issues and follow-up action, as required (i.e. employee coaching, conflict resolution, recommending disciplinary actions, etc...)
Maintain positive customer/client relations through effective communication, preparing rental estimates and rental agreements, contract fulfillment and prudent financial practices, while providing efficient event management services.
Monitor and control staffing levels in an effort to improve overall cost recovery while maintaining satisfactory event and customer service levels.
Make operational recommendations for venue amenities and services within approved budget with the goal of improving overall cost recovery for scheduled events and services.
Review and initiate procurement processes for the venue (i.e. informal/formal bids, purchase card, requisitions/purchase orders)
Supervise venue operations and maintenance which may include implementation of maintenance plans, ensuring maintenance standards are maintained, assessing scheduled/planned maintenance for completeness and submitting recommendations for major maintenance and/or capital improvement projects.
Oversee all in house construction projects and ensure work is completed per the original scope.
Oversee all outside contractors on renovation projects including scheduling and completing post-project inspection to ensure work is completed per the original scope/contract.
Oversee equestrian ring maintenance to include ring wall and dirt installation inside the arena for equestrian events, footing maintenance, and equipment maintenance.
Maintain proper safety and sanitation procedures as well as ensuring proper repair and maintenance of venue amenities and equipment.
Monitor venue compliance with federal, state, local, and Commission regulations regarding sale of food and alcohol, OSHA, payroll, employment and EEO guidelines.

1. Bachelor's degree or four years experience in one of the following fields: parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or in area of required specialty; and
2. Four years of progressively responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services or area of required specialty, including two years as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor; or
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience; and,
4. A valid operating license (e.g., county pool operator's license and child care license), where appropriate.
5. A valid driver's license may be required.
