Job Summary

Our client is a progressive and growing shipyard business and is in the market for an experienced Production Manager to join their team. This position is responsible and accountable for the performance of the shipyard personnel in the areas of safety, quality, and scheduling; including the administrative functions needed to support shipyard operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision to shipyard managers, supervisors, and foremen
  • Directs activities in areas of safety, personnel, production, scheduling, material handling, and quality
  • Ensures compliance with all safety, quality, company, and regulatory directives in conjunction with management
  • Directs and coordinates shipyard operations within company policies and procedures
  • Responsible and accountable for the performance of craft supervisors and tradesmen for safety, quality, and scheduling
  • Schedules and conducts shipyard meetings in conjunction with shipyard management
  • Advises company management team regarding manning and expense goals and ensures efforts are made to meet projections

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years experience as a shipyard manager or other management level
  • In depth knowledge of all business functions associated with shipyard trades, safety, and management
  • Ability to understand and administer all shipyard classification guidelines in relation to government and commercial requirements for all trades
  • Ability to apply continuous improvement strategies across all functions, which includes the ability to introduce the need for change, create excitement for change, and lead change initiatives
  • Ability to redefine communication skills based on audience, use active listening skills and non-verbal rapport building skills, and effectively communicate message to both small and large groups
  • Ability to motivate and connect with people with a sense of enthusiasm, passion and commitment
  • Considerable knowledge in all areas of ship repair, material handling, labor, safety and product relates commercial and government practices
  • Excellent reading, writing, and math skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge is required and knowledge of Microsoft Project is preferred
  • 30/70% in office and out in the shipyard
  • College degree required
  • Physically able and capable of performing the essential job responsibilities
