As a Mortgage Loan Underwriter II, your role will be to underwrite and make loan decisions for all mortgage applications in accordance to internal and investor guidelines for Conventional, Jumbo, Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and Portfolio loans. Ensure each loan complies with State and Federal requirements, secondary market guidelines, and internal policies and procedures.

Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Mortgage Underwriter I
Loan types designated to underwrite are Conventional, Jumbo, FHA, VA, home equity, home equity lines-of-credit, home improvement, and manufactured housing loans
Manage underwriting pipeline in accordance with process flow expectations. This includes file completeness, accuracy, turn times, and quality communication between members, team members, and all third parties associated with the loans worked on
Work with loan originators and processors for file completeness and team cohesiveness for best practices including but not limited to applications, automated underwriting, financials, and loan origination system input
Effectively review loan request and recommend alternative loan terms or products at underwriter’s disposal with appropriate conditions
Review highly complex member financials for self-employed borrowers, which include personal tax returns and business or corporate tax returns, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets
Perform collateral appraisal reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance
Respond and address all post funding audits, investor suspense, Early Payment Defaults, and other loan quality concerns
Assist with timely and accurate Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) reporting for all mortgage loans in the department
Remain up to date on all internal policies and procedures, state and federal regulations, and coordinate with management to address any changes as needed
Assist with member escalations as it relates to underwriting decisions and performance standards
Assist with updates to departmental policies and procedures
Assist with all department compliance and quality control monitoring as required for department compliance and quality control purposes
Assist management with the monitoring and interpretation of departmental reporting
Coordinate with management on development and updating of existing and new loan programs based on market trends and organizational objectives
Support all departmental areas and actively participate in departmental and organizational meetings
Support and promote the cross selling of A+FCU products and services.
Maintain all third party relationships.

Five (5) years mortgage loan underwriting experience required that includes knowledge of Fannie Mae (FNMA), Freddie Mac (FHLMC), Jumbo, FHA, and VA loans
Bachelor degree in finance or related field preferred
One year supervisory or equivalent training preferred
Additional specialized or technical training in mortgage lending preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of mortgage lending practices, federal & state regulatory requirements, mortgage insurance, secondary market, and compliance requirements required
Extensive experience and knowledge of reviewing complex income types for self-employed borrowers
Thorough knowledge of reviewing credit, assets, and appraisal analysis
Proficient knowledge analyzing automated underwriting systems Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Product Advisor (LPA)
Sound credit judgement required
Strong math/accounting skills required
Strong verbal and written communication skills required
Ability to speak in large group settings required
Experience with Encompass loan operating system and Symitar core system preferred
Good organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong computer/technical skills required
Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point) skills required.
This position requires registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry on an annual basis in addition to maintaining updates as needed. Initial registration is required immediately upon hire into this position. Failure to register or maintain a current registry, or any criminal activity that would bar continued participation as a MLO may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Must have or be able to obtain certification in FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) within 12 months of hire date.
