What you’ll be doing...
This position is responsible for the maintaining and operation of applications within the Verizon Video Network. This position will be responsible for the System Administration for all upstream and downstream network elements including the leveraging of scripting and automation to efficiently restore and resolve network problems. The engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise on system maintenance, configuration, repair, and installation standards for all video data and video equipment. The engineer will lead and assist with training initiatives as well as process development/improvements for the national operation.
When required the individual will provide expert level support for system outages, lead trouble bridges, engage vendors and produce “root cause analysis” documentation.
Design and Performance:
Responsible for the implementation of feature designs, and to provide engineering solutions that improve application and network reliability and performance through scripting and automation. The engineer will partner with all key stakeholders to ensure new features and\or fixes are swiftly rolled out with no negative impact to customers or system performance. Responsible for benchmarking the system and ensuring all reliability and performance metrics are met.
This position will require independent thinking and a creative mindset with the ability to leverage automation to eliminate manual processes and provide near real-time visibility into system health and performance. Able to identify deficiencies and quickly develop a solution in a DevOps manner using scripting and automation to help improve reliability and add operational efficiencies in the network.
Actively participate in meetings with key stakeholders regarding roadmap planning and performance testing. Mentor tier 1 members on video network systems and troubleshooting. Provide concise weekly updates to management and effectively present project status to leadership.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Associate’s Degree or two or more years of work experience.
Two or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have
A degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
1-3 years’ work experience as a systems/network engineer in a video environment
Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Perl, Python, Shell, Ruby).
Experience with Linux systems in an enterprise production environment.
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, load balancing, firewalls, HTTP, SSL, DNS, DHCP.
Proven ability to manage/administer: Networks, Video Architecture, Conditional Access Systems, Ad Insertion systems, Windows & Linux Servers
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve IP network troubles in the physical, data link, and network layers
Ability to maintain configuration of devices in a network management system
Experience with enterprise/network/video architecture monitoring tools or applications
Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or Arris networks
Ability to quickly analyze situations, identify problems, and provide solutions.
Ability to lead and drive projects to completion.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proven customer communication and interaction skills
Ability to perform challenging assignments under limited to no supervision
Ability to work different shifts
Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
Experience with SDN/NFV
Must be willing to participate in 24x7 escalation and support duties including holidays and weekends
