Essential Job Functions
The Tax Compliance Supervisor will support the Director of Taxes and the Tax Manager in the management, preparation and review of partnership and other business tax returns, estimates, extensions, and provide support for inquiries from various tax authorities. This position will work with the Tax Manager to mentor and over time supervise the department’s tax analysts. This individual will work with both internal and external parties and must be able to handle multiple projects concurrently.
Manage the Firmwide tax compliance calendar to ensure the accurate and timely submission of all tax returns.
Oversee all aspects of the US federal and state income tax compliance process.
Work with the Director of Taxes and the Tax Manager to manage and develop the tax analysts.
Collaborate with the Tax Manager to develop and review the Firm’s tax trial balance to ensure accuracy (e.g. all accruals and other adjustments are accounted for).
Manage the preparation and review of the quarterly estimated tax calculations.
Calculate and track partner allocations and tax basis.
Prepare footnotes for K-1 reporting purposes.
Assist in gathering information necessary to support inquiries from various taxing authorities.
Liaise with outside tax consultants on various tax studies (e.g. M&E, etc.).
Assist the Tax Director and Tax Manager with implementation of tax planning opportunities, process efficiencies and quality improvements.
Monitor current and proposed tax law changes to assess impact to the partnership and partners.
Work with Tax Director and Tax Manager to documents tax policies and procedures.
Other related duties and special projects as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
The Tax Compliance Supervisor will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA certification or MST is preferred.
Law firm/professional services firm experience with both US and International operations is desired. Experience with a “Big 4” or other National CPA firm is a plus.
At least 5 years of experience managing the preparation and/or preparation of US federal, state, and local income tax returns is required.
This individual should be proactive, results oriented, and have the ability to communicate with personnel at all levels.
The ability to collaborate and effectively facilitate information sharing within Finance and other functions within the Firm to meet sensitive tax filing deadlines through the year is required.
The candidate needs to be a critical thinker who possesses a high level of intellectual curiosity, while at the same time is comfortable navigating the details involved with the tax function and its responsibilities.
Ability to work extended hours as necessary to complete time sensitive responsibilities.
MS Office with emphasis on Word and Excel
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
