Chartwells Higher Ed is looking to hire ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF DINING SERVICES University of Houston – main campus

The overnight manager will be a part of a management team that consists of 7 other managers for both FOH and BOH operations along with over 200+ hourly associates at Moody Towers Dining Commons. The residential Dining Commons is a 24/7 operation, accumulating 1.3 million in revenue a month and feeds on average 1100 meals on peak overnight shifts, and on average 5000 meals during the day shift.

The manager will ensure service standards are met for back of the house associates throughout the night shift operating hours, as well as ensure production and prep is ready for the next shift.

SUMMARY: * As an Assistant Director of Dining Services –, you will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day food service operations of a medium to large volume location. You will manage and lead a team of associates, and will be responsible for talent development, managing client relationships, profitability, and supporting financial goals in an assigned area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with the Chef and management team in creating nutritious and top quality food.
  • Implements new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary teams.
  • Maintains excellent relationships with the client.
  • Manages, trains, and develops associates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

FOOD SAFETY / SANITATION

  • Monitor and maintain commercial cooking equipment in good repair.
  • Responsible for safety and quality assurance reporting.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of proper serving temperatures –HACCP standards adhered to across campus.
  • Ensures corporate and OSHA safety standards are followed
  • Follows principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Represents Company in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner is all customer and employee interactions
  • Interacts with customers in a manner to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Greets customers courteously and is on the floor during peak service hours
  • Serves customers quickly, Does not allow back-ups or snags in serving lines
  • Serves customer food and beverage orders quickly, in proper portions, in a courteous demeanor
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of daily menu items and explains same to customers accurately
  • Relays relevant comments from customers directly to supervisors
  • Interact with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly and service oriented manner
  • Consistently exhibits the ability to keep up with peak cafeteria hours and does so calmly, accurately and efficiently
  • Checks to ensure that all display foods are merchandised attractively per standards
  • Serve food neatly and attractively per standard

Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of food service management experience.
  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations.
  • Able to work both front and back Kitchen services
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Financial experience and business acumen skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet.
  • Associate’s degree is preferred.
