Our scientists apply cutting-edge technologies within the diabetes and obesity areas, with the goal of bringing molecules to market. Areas of focus include advanced proteomics, flow cytometry, bioinformatics, high content imaging and phenotypic screening with an emphasis on identifying protein-based therapies for obesity, diabetes, and adjacent therapeutic areas. A highly proficient scientist to support obesity drug discovery research. Demonstrate scientific leadership through application of technical expertise, and peer leadership to the research team/group. The primary focus will be on developing and implementing in vitro metabolic cell models and assays to support early discovery screening and target validation programs.
Reports to a member of the Obesity Research Management team. Internal relationships include working with research employees, project managers, as well as colleagues in Diabetes & Obesity Research, Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI), Novo Nordisk A/S, and Novo Nordisk Beijing. External relationships include relevant parts of the obesity research community, including scientific collaborators and key opinion leaders.
Develops and implements cell-based in vitro assays to support obesity drug discovery
Accurately interprets experimental data, formulates conclusions and communicates data externally
Drafts scientific reports and prepare presentation slides through demonstrated expertise in a specific focus area
Maintains scientific awareness through literature and attendance at relevant conferences
May assist in the day to day supervision of research associates
May lead research projects and programs through cross collaboration of teams
Provides support to the site and global business strategy through technical awareness, scientific strategic leadership, and by ensuring state-of-the-art competency within expertise area.
0-10% overnight travel required.
A Ph.D. with a minimum of 3 years post-doctoral experience or equivalent
Requires 3 years of hands-on experience with cell and molecular biology techniques including
Culture of rodent and human primary cells and cell lines, primary cell isolation from tissue, cell line generation, immunocytochemistry, microscopy and image analysis
Cell based functional and phenotypic assay development and in vitro screening systems (e.g. AlphaScreen and HTRF-based second messenger assays, beta-arrestin recruitment, Ca2+/membrane potential, proliferation, differentiation, High-Throughput/High Content screening)
Cloning and sub-cloning, construct generation, reporter gene assays, gene analysis (PCR), knockdown or silencing techniques (e.g. RNAi, CRISPR)
Knowledge of molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in a focus area such as adipose tissue and lipid biology, energy metabolism, gut-brain communication, or functional neurocircuitry is preferred
Knowledge of biochemical techniques such as Western blots, immunoassays, ELISAs is preferred
Demonstrated understanding of complex scientific procedures with technical proficiency
Ability to exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation of results
Ability to influence, communicate and collaborate across a global organization
Demonstrated expertise in scientific field and ability to apply skills to contribute to organization strategy
Excellent written and oral communication skills required
