Position Description
AMPHS is recruiting a Chinese-speaking Psychotherapist to provide mental health counseling services to
Chinese communities in Sunset Park, Brooklyn as an expansion of its current mental health counseling
program. AMPHS currently provides culturally-appropriate social service counseling, social support, care
coordination and case management, working closely with clinical staff to address health risk factors and other
social determinants of health, including, but not exclusive to domestic violence and child abuse, housing, living
conditions, etc. The social work team offers ongoing follow-up, basic motivational interviewing, and goal-setting
with community members and their families, especially those with complex conditions, while monitoring and
evaluating clients’ progress and modifying treatment plans accordingly.
The mental health therapist will work closely with the AMPHS social work and community health worker team to
complement their work and offer needed psychotherapy services to community members screened as at-risk.
He or she will be working with the vulnerable immigrant populations of Sunset Park – many who have been
victims of domestic abuse, violence, trafficking, and family separation – to address acute mental health
conditions such as depression, anxiety, lifestyle issues, trauma, grief, coping, relationship issues, and substance
use.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Developing an initial assessment and a prospective Treatment Plan for each new client at intake.
Engaging community members in weekly (or as needed) individual and/or group sessions based on the
utilization of Evidence Based practice interventions and the Treatment Plan.
Documenting progress toward goals and ensure fidelity in weekly Progress Notes documenting contact
and outcomes.
Working with social work and community health worker team to facilitate referrals for community members
as needed to community-based, culturally-linguistically-competent agencies for needed social services.
Meeting regularly with Supervisor to discuss concerns and carry out plans for each client.
Attending and participating in all appropriate clinical case conferences, training sessions, and staff
meetings.

Alerting appropriate members of the Executive Management team of emergencies, which jeopardize the
client's stability within the community or family so that available resources may be used to meet immediate
needs on an ongoing basis.
Managing a regularly assigned caseload of community members at AMPHS open hours and record care
management information in EMR system no later than 24 hours after contact.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned, including conducting occasional community
workshops on mental health.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: LCSW, LMHC, LMFT with C&A, PhD (Psychologist), or PsyD (psychologist) required.
Experience: 1-4 years of practical psychotherapy experience working with English and Chinese-
speaking, low-income immigrant populations and adults, children, and adolescents.
Language: Oral and written fluency in Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese preferred) and English required.
Competent technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel,
PowerPoint); knowledge of electronic health records a plus, but not required (training provided).
Good communication and listening skills.
Ability and willingness to provide emotional support, encouragement and motivation to patients.
Time Commitment:
8-10 hours per week, occasional Saturday availability required, weekday afternoon or early evening
availability preferred.
Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $28-$35, commensurate with experience.
This is a grant-funded, independent contractor position with the opportunity for annual contract renewal.
