We have an immediate opening in the South Bay office of H. T. Harvey & Associates for a full time professional to support senior management and the operations of our ecological consulting firm.

Who we are:

H. T. Harvey & Associates is an ecological consulting firm based near San Jose, California, with six offices in California and Hawaii. Our core areas of expertise are restoration ecology, landscape architecture, plant ecology, wildlife ecology, fish and aquatic ecology, and ecological research. Our work is on projects that involve wildlife habitat; threatened and endangered plant, animal, and fish species; habitat restoration and native landscape design; habitat conservation plans; renewable energy facilities; and more. We cultivate excellence in our staff and our work in pursuit of our mission to create ecologically sound solutions to our clients’ complex natural resource challenges.

What we need:

We are looking for a sharp highly-motivated professional to join our operations team to serve as a key ecological support staff to several senior executives. H. T. Harvey & Associates’ operations team supports the work of our scientists and landscape architects and designers. The support staff is a critical part of the operations group, providing business, communication, marketing, proposal, and client deliverable assistance to senior leadership.

Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the layout and production of client reports, proposals, and correspondence
  • Proofreading written materials and ensuring the quality of final document format
  • Scheduling meetings, setting up conference calls, and making travel arrangements for senior leadership
  • Completing expense reports and purchase orders
  • Research and writing on topics related to business operations
  • Supporting and facilitating other work of senior leadership as needed

The ideal candidate would have the following background and skills:

Background and skills:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited institution
  • At least 2 years of prior work experience in an office environment
  • Accurate and rapid keyboarding skills
  • Strongly proficient with formatting complex documents
  • General knowledge of spreadsheets
  • Microsoft Outlook features and functions


  • Highly organized
  • Exceptional verbal, and written communication
  • An eagle-eye for detail (with words and numbers)
  • The ability to juggle multiple tasks and rapid changes in priorities while remaining productive
  • A proactive and persistent approach to getting information needed to complete a task
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Any of the following would be a great plus!

  • Other types of software experience including: Adobe creative suite, PowerPoint, databases; website content management tools; project management; and bookkeeping or accounting
  • Basic bookkeeping or expense tracking
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills
  • Exposure to government and business contracts
  • Previous work with a consulting firm or an environmental organization or business
  • An interest in and awareness of the natural world and/or science
