Essential Functions: This position actively contributes or leads in the planning and coordinating of the staging, installation, and connectivity of computer and networking systems to ensure stable, scalable, redundant, and secure network operations. Participates in the activities of the Network support team to independently resolve end-user hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion. Primary job duties and responsibilities include functional network design/ deployment, network performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation/training of a Statewide network - utilizing industry best practices for security, disaster recovery, business continuity, change control, and client support. Day to day functions include configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and operation of routers, next-generation firewalls, load-balancers, VOIP phones, wireless access points, microwave radio links, switches, and other network components while providing third tier-level support to end users. Mentor and train junior Network and Field Engineering team members.
Education: Associate degree from accredited college or university.
Experience: Four (4) years of professional work experience in the areas of network administration, network engineering, or network support.
Note: Professional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two (2) years of the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of, and experience with, the structure and operation of wide area and local area networks and communication standards including TCP/IP, IP subnetting, VPN/IPsec, VOIP, DHCP, DNS, SMTP, ACL’s. Knowledge of overall comprehension of communication protocols (Mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP). Knowledge of, and experience with, troubleshooting and resolving WAN connectivity and latency issues utilizing NetFlow, packet captures, path MTU discovery, and other available methods. Knowledge of, and experience with, implementing and troubleshooting. Knowledge of, and experience with, configuration and installation of Cisco routers and switch-stacks, port-channels/link aggregation, spanning tree, port-security, dhcp-snooping, and 802.1x port-based authentication. Knowledge of, and experience with, configuration and installation of load-balancers. Knowledge of, and experience with, security policy management of next-generation firewalls. Knowledge of Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems and utilities. Skill in Network Management Systems (NMS), to include but not limited to, Cisco Prime/DNA/CMX and Orion/SolarWinds. Skill in network management protocols, to include but not limited to, SNMP, CDP, ICMP, syslog, and NetFlow. Skill in change management controls/procedures and Incident Management (ITSM) platforms. Skill in documentation, including the ability to produce technical documents (e.g., topology diagrams, design documents). Skill in troubleshooting, analytical thinking, organization, and mentoring skills. Skill in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relations, and teamwork. Ability to develop and execute project implementation plans. Ability to mentor and train others. ability to perform all essential functions of this position.
