RISE is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1980 as Aid To The Developmentally Disabled (ADD) by family members who were concerned about the physical and emotional decline of patients compelled to live in crowded institutions.
These family members believed that appropriate treatment and training in a warm, sheltered, homelike environment would enhance their physical and emotional growth. With the support, funding and licensing of New York State’s Office of People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and the Office of Mental Health (OMH), ADD came to life.
The Wainscott program is one of our five Mental Health Community Residences located on a beautiful property on the east end of Long Island, with an inground pool. This residence is home to 9 individuals, both women and men, who are engaged in a variety of activities ranging from volunteer opportunities, day program and employment. During their leisure time the residents often enjoy recreational outings, such as going to the movies, going out to eat, visiting family/friends or just relaxing, playing games and enjoying the company of their peers. The residents are also engaged in opportunities to learn or expand upon skills such as cooking, budgeting their money and managing their medications, to name a few, with the support of our dedicated staff.
