Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to join our team. The Fleet Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of vehicles and equipment to ensure they operate efficiently and safely.
Performs complex technical activities pertaining to the proper functioning and maintenance of the trucks and warehouse equipment;
Conducting safety inspections, performing preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs to vehicles, equipment and systems;
Setting up checklist and record keeping methods for trucks and equipment inspections and preventative maintenance;
Guiding assistant(s) on proper equipment operation, diagnostics, repair, maintenance and inspection methods, techniques and procedures;
Self-driven, work under minimal supervision. Reports to Transportation Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on trucks, such as checking batteries and changing oil to ensure proper vehicle running.
- Inspect various parts of trucks, including brake systems, wheel bearings and steering mechanisms to ensure they are in the proper condition to operate effectively.
- Use different tools and equipment, such as pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, screwdrivers, hoists, and jacks, to repair trucks while constantly utilizing safety precautions.
- Diagnose malfunctions in defective equipment by inspecting and testing using devices such as motor analyzers, handheld computers, and chassis charts to determine how to address problems.
- Test drive vehicles to ensure they are running properly and to find issues to determine what the solution will be.
- Replace parts, valves, bearings, and gears as needed and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems.
- Measure vehicle emissions to ensure they are within the proper limits.
- Ensure parts conform to factory specifications by inspecting and verifying clearances and dimensions.
- Performs maintenance for warehouse equipment: fork-lifts, mechanical and electric pallet jacks, bailer and shredder.
- Provides guidance and training to assistants.
Job Skills and qualifications
- Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or similar field
- Must possess at least one and obtain within 12 months of hire, certification in at least three areas of the automotive of medium/heavy truck series by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (NIASE)
- Must possess or willing and able to acquire a Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL)
- Three year experience in diagnostics
