OHSE Programs Manager

Location: Buffalo Grove (suburb of Chicago) IL, Miramar (suburb of Miami) FL or US plant based

Reports to: AFA OHSE Director

Job Overview: As OHSE Programs Manager you will provide Occupational, Health, Safety and Environment program management across AFA (Amcor Flexibles America). Your role will be to ensure compliance with applicable requirements and identify any gaps which need action. As OHSE Programs Manager you will also develop and maintain policies/procedures, lead coordination of risk assessments and audits, implement systems for reporting/tracking mechanisms action items, support incident investigations and lead routine OHSE reporting, analysis, and communication.

Job Dimensions:
The nature of the role involves ensuring execution of OHSE programs across all AFA sites. Although essentially an advisory role (with no direct reports and OHSE at all times the responsibility of line management), the OHSE Program Manager must be highly influential and have the managerial courage when necessary to assert themselves and drive OHSE as a core value in the business.
The OHSE Program Manager is also a member of the OHSE network in Amcor, with a direct reporting responsibility into the OHSE functional head for AFA.
This role will require travel up to 30%

Principal Accountabilities:
Develop, communicate, and maintain policies/procedure to ensure regulatory compliance and safe design/operation of AFA facilities
Coordinate audits (internal, third-party) across AFA to capture gaps and action items
Support development of a system to centrally track OHSE actions across AFA. Develop routine reporting to monitor/communicate action item status and closure rate
Support completion of review for all injuries and serious near misses, and ensure reporting is done in a timely and accurate manner
Owning the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. Provide routine reporting for OHSE performance vs. targets, identify key trends, and tracking of key actions
Analyze key metrics to uncover trends and root causes that inform actionable business recommendations
Track key BG initiatives and support sites on its execution
Manage company compliance efforts with applicable local, federal and international regulations for NA operations
Stay abreast of current OHSE information including EHS laws, regulations, benchmarking studies, industry best practices. Communicate to all stakeholders any relevant changes in regulations or industrial trends/best practices
Support NA plants on OHSE regulatory aspects
Coordinate proactive risk analysis with tools to identify hazards and focus area to mitigate risks
Evaluate technical/R&D/capital projects to ensure design, installation, and operation meet regulatory requirements and internal standards for safety/environment
Ensure required training is clearly developed/communicated, monitor and report on training completion to help drive execution
Provide OHSE training where needed (with focus on compliance/regulatory training in NA operations)
Participate on global OHSE specific teams (e.g. Fire, Sharps) as needed
Provide support for effective implementation of fire safety directives and initiatives such as ATEX (explosive atmospheres) and fire protection systems
As a member of the OHSE central team, contribute to the development of strategic initiatives, policies and practices whilst ensuring active exchange of best practice between the different Amcor businesses

Qualifications/Requirements

Must have relevant manufacturing experience
CSP or CSM is preferred
Multi-site EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety) management experience highly preferred
Experience working with external regulatory agencies is required
Ergonomic analysis and application experience

Knowledge & Experience:
4+ years of experience in an EHS management role in a manufacturing environment
Broad/extensive knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and DOT rules and regulations
Basic understanding of industrial ergonomic principles
ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 Certification experience is preferred
Knowledgeable of OSHA, EPA, NFPA and ANSI standards
Experience with “critical safe work practices” (LOTO, machinery guarding, confined space entries, work at heights, electrical works, etc.)

Education & Certifications:
BS or MS in engineering, environmental, safety management, industrial hygiene, or related field of study

Skills/Abilities/Behaviours:
Strong oral and written language proficiency in English
Spanish and Portuguese language skills preferred
OHSA management, or equivalent work related experience
Must possess excellent facilitation/training skills, as well as strong project management
Must have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with all level of management/personnel, fostering cooperative relationships and a cohesive management / teambuilding culture
Ability to analytically resolve technical and logistical issues
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple assignments/projects simultaneously
