Summary
What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

Salary: $105,335 (Step 01) to $136,936 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

There is one interdisciplinary position. It may be filled as a Geodesist, GS-1372-13 or General Engineer, GS-0801-13. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Responsibilities
As a Geodesist or General Engineer within the Earthquake Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

Laser Scanning . Mobile (vehicle, airborne, backpack-mounted) and Terrestrial Laser Scanning in support of earthquake-related deformation monitoring. This includes rapid response to Western US surface-rupturing events and regularly scheduled inter- and post-seismic monitoring of specific faults such as the San Andreas and Hayward faults.

Low-cost Sensor Earthquake Early Warning and Rapid Situational Awareness . Support and expansion of existing networks (domestic and internationally) and conception and design of future networks in earthquake-prone, resource-challenged parts of the world.

Seafloor Geodesy. Design and operation of wave-glider-based (autonomous ocean vessel) seafloor geodetic operations offshore Western U.S. Duties include modification of wave-gliders for GPS-Acoustic and pressure-sensor geodesy as well as design and operation of open-ocean seafloor geodetic experiments.

Creep-and Strainmeter Geodesy . Provide field technical support for SF Bay area creepmeters and borehole strainmeters. Assists engineers with shake-table experiments on small-scale structure for ongoing VA structural health monitoring project. Monitor time series from the creepmeters and strainmeters on a daily basis to diagnose instrument performance and look for geophysical anomalies.

The incumbent is expected to have a professional engineering license in at least one U.S. state.

Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.
