The Market Research Manager owns all data, analysis, and reporting within the Business Development function and is relied upon for insight into macro-economic factors that impact our business, as well as market supply, demand and competitive threats. This role is accountable for all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual reporting on our market that is generated by the purchasing team. The audience for reports and dashboards produced by this role include our CEO, other C-level executives, and various Sr. Executives. To be successful in this role, timeliness and accuracy of all reports and deliverables with minimal supervision is imperative. This Manager must have solid time management skills including the ability to independently set and manage appropriate timelines and hold themselves and others to milestones including meetings and deliverables in order to timely deliver fully vetted, QC'd, accurate reports for consumption by a very senior audience. The information set used by this role is far from perfect or complete. The right person for the job must have the creativity and ability to independently seek out information from any available source and see through ambiguous (even sometimes conflicting) data to pull forward the right, most relevant pieces of information and the right strategic conclusions. This position ultimately helps inform the organization's decisions regarding capital deployment and statements made on earnings calls.
Independently develop and timely deliver reporting and analysis that is fully vetted, QC'd and accurate to an audience that includes our CEO and other C-level and Sr. Executives. Specific deliverables include (but are not limited to): live dashboards within our CRM tool (salesforce), weekly reports on our deployment, bidding activity and latest purchasing metrics; quarterly reports including our earnings briefings, Board of Director updates, updates to our 3-5 year supply forecasts, market competitive analysis, analysis of our banking partners' earnings calls/filings; and semi annual exercises around budget and reforecast. You are also responsible for other ad hoc reporting as well.
Research, calendar, listen to, and summarize key information from banking partners' and competitors public statements. This includes listening to live earnings calls (which often take place prior to 6 am PST), reviewing transcripts to confirm what was heard, plugging into all investor day materials as soon as they are available, and setting up automatic news feeds to capture appropriate articles/press releases. You should have a thirst for getting your hands on any and all relevant information both public and private that can inform your reporting deliverables and allow you to become the expert on industry, segment, and bank-specific credit research across the broader financial market. You will be responsible for everything from market sizing, segmentation, competitive and trend analysis of industries and individual banks to the comprehensive analysis of the direction of specific sectors or the overall economy.
Proactively stay on top of macro economic trends by being "real time" plugged into Fed reports, Credit Bureau publications, news articles and other economic reports about unemployment rates, median household income, consumer debt load, consumer health, etc in order to as accurately as possible forecast forward looking supply changes within our sector.
Has complete accountability for our Salesforce.com instance including data integrity and dashboards related to purchasing. Accountable for oversight and management of the work done by our SalesForce.com administrator (a shared resource outside of our group) related to user management, data management, application setup, and customization of reports and dashboards within our instance.
Bachelors Degree in Business, Management, Economics or Finance.
3 – 5 years of market research experience or experience in a relevant industry or functional area.
High proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Expertise handling multiple complex projects. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively – both verbally and in writing.
Proficiency with business management software's like CRM, ERP, and reporting software's
2+ years of experience in synthesizing financial data to develop insights.
