Description
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides competent pastoral care in crisis and death situations

Demonstrates a calming presence and influence in crisis and death situations
Demonstrates a good working understanding of the grief process, especially in sudden death situations
Willing to provide for or facilitate the spiritual/pastoral needs of patients/families of different faith backgrounds
Able to work well with other members of the health care team
Able to maintain a personal balance in emotionally difficult circumstances
Able to manage a large crowd situation
Able to work well with, and coordinate with, local pastors
2. Provides competent and consistent pastoral care in the in-patient setting

Develops a structure and strategy to cover all assigned areas on a daily basis
Responds to patient and family needs based upon informal assessment of spiritual/pastoral needs
Able to work well with other members of the health care team
Fosters and maintains good working relationships with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers
Able to work well with, and coordinate with, local pastors
Responds appropriately to the spiritual/pastoral needs of staff when needed
Willing to provide for or facilitate the spiritual/pastoral needs of patients/families of different faith backgrounds
3. Provides competent and prompt pastoral care when on-call

Responds to page within 5 minutes
Comes into hospital within 30 minutes after returning page
Assesses and makes judgments regarding responding to pages based upon departmental call-back criteria
Displays courteous and helpful attitude when responding to call-back requests
4. Completes departmental and hospital required documentation

Writes notes in patient charts as needed and in accord with department standards
Completes and turns in daily accountability forms in timely fashion
Produces and submits on-call reports according to department standards
5. Other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Required - Master's degree or equivalent degree - Field of Study: Divinity / Theology (Master's degree from a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Preferred - 2 years Pastoral experience as an ordained or similarly validated clergy (credentials registered with appropriate agency, such as a county in Arkansas) experience preferred
Preferred - 2 years pediatric experience preferred
CERTIFICATION / LICENSE / REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

Preferred - Board Certified Chaplain (APC, NACC or NAJC) (Certification)
SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Required - Advanced interpersonal skills and a compassionate attitude towardsothers
Required - Basic understanding of and high respect for other faith groups
Required - Able to effectively use a computer
