Loudoun Water is seeking a Director of Water Operations to join our team. The Director of Water Operations is a key leadership position in the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Division. The O&M Division is committed to maintaining an integrated and sustainable program to provide safe, reliable, and high-quality services for our customers.

Headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia, Loudoun Water is a public utility that provides water, wastewater and reclaimed water services to residents and businesses within unincorporated areas of Loudoun County. Loudoun Water currently supplies approximately 25 MGD of potable water supply to roughly 80,000 customer accounts through a network of nearly 1,300 miles of pipeline. Loudoun County, home to Washington’s Dulles International Airport, is the third largest county in Virginia and one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. Loudoun Water’s mission is to provide sustainable water services to protect health, the environment and quality of life.

Our ideal candidate is a creative self-starter who is passionate about water, the environment, and the community we serve. The individual will direct activities of the Water Operations department in the production and distribution of potable water in protection of human health; responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating all functions of the department. Essential functions include:

Oversee and direct operations of water production and distribution facilities. Achieve proper balance of water supply from our treatment plant(s) and wholesale purchase of finished water.
Provide strategic direction for several small community groundwater systems.
Provide department leadership by fostering and promoting collaboration within the department and among all other divisions within Loudoun Water.
In partnership with the Water Resources Program Director, serve as a liaison to wholesale water suppliers and regional partners on issues related to water supply and regional resilience.
Engage with the water research community to ensure Loudoun Water stays ahead of developing technologies and issues impacting water production and distribution; leads research initiatives as appropriate.
Ensure reliable and optimal operations of potable water production and distribution facilities.
Requirements: BS degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field. Fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in engineering and advanced management skills in administration of personnel with proven experience at senior management level. Demonstrated experience in the design and operation of water treatment and distribution facilities is preferred. An MS in civil or environmental engineering or an MBA will be considered in lieu of some experience.

Special Requirements: Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or ability to obtain within six months of employment through reciprocity from another state is preferred. Licensed as a Professional Waterworks Operator in the Commonwealth of Virginia is highly desirable. Work varied hours as required to carry out job responsibilities and duties.
