Full Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Modeling Center of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing/Melting S&T guides decisions within OC’s businesses by using virtual prototyping and simulation. Those mathematical modeling techniques and software tools allow for new designs & operations troubleshooting through insights, increase safety & reduce product and process development time & costs. Assistance is needed to support fluid, thermal and structural modeling activities of the Modeling COE.
The engineer will prepare and run models using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) software packages. Results will be reviewed and applied to design and operations efforts. Those initiatives will lead to the development and implementation of new, innovative designs. Those projects will also generate new settings and technologies in production environments, reducing manufacturing costs and capital intensity for insulation & composites glass fibers, Foamglas, Mineral wool, and Roofing/Asphalt operations. General modeling support of those processes will also be provided as situations arise.
Familiarity with ANSYS/Design Modeler, ANSYS/Fluent, ANSYS/Mechanical and GFM is beneficial, but candidates with background in other modeling packages will be considered.
This career opportunity is at the Owens Corning Science & Technology Center in Granville, Ohio. The position involves occasional, domestic and/or international travel to OC locations. This includes U.S., Mexico, and Canada, as well as facilities in South America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. Travel to professional conferences, training events, etc… may also occur.
