SUPERVISION:
- Directly supervises the Assistant Director of Housing & Operations, Assistant Director of Residence Life for the College of Nursing & Health Sciences, and professional live-in staff (specific to live-in duties and res hall programming), student interns and student employees.
- Regularly meets with Residence Life Coordinators (live-in staff) to assist in their management of the residential units, supervision of Resident Assistants and department committee responsibilities including Staff Selection, Recognition, Training, and In-Service.
- Leads professional office staff meetings regularly.
- Provides formal evaluations and feedback for supervisees based upon position descriptions, shared objectives, and observation.
STAFF SELECTION AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Coordinates the recruitment, selection and professional development of Residence Life Coordinators and Resident Assistants.
- Supervises the Assistant Director of Housing and Operations in his/her coordination of recruitment, selection and training of summer staff.
- Maintains and updates staff manuals and position descriptions.
STUDENT LEARNING/PROGRAMMING:
- Coordinates programming based on the University’s learning outcomes.
- Assesses needed change through Student Senate Hall Representatives. This includes the assessment of student needs and the evaluation of completed programs.
- Provides resources and referral information for the programming efforts of Residence Life staff.
- Administers the department’s programming budget.
ADMINISTRATION:
- Administers, enforces and interprets policies of the University as it relates to housing, including facilitating and/or assisting with Student Conduct meetings and sanctioning in the absence of the Dean of Students; supervises Residence Life Coordinators who adjudicate conduct cases as related to residential students.
- Develops annual goals and objectives with Residence Life staff in support of the mission, core values and strategic plan of the University.
- Directs the administration of the work orders and prorate systems.
- Assists in the development and monitoring of the Residence Life budget.
- Ensures that appropriate health, safety and emergency procedures are followed; refer students appropriately to the Title IX Coordinator, Counseling and/or Health Services.
- Serves on the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).
- Works with the Dean of Students on capital improvements and renovation needs.
- Acts as the housing liaison to Safety Services, Business Office, Athletics, Facilities and Building Services staff.
- Facilitates the opening/closing of residential units.
- Assists in the opening/closing of residential units for summer break housing.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Housing & Operations in the residence hall, fraternity house, apartment selection and lottery processes utilizing eResLife Housing software.
RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond to crisis situations with other staff, including evenings and weekends.
- Represents Residence Life matters at special university activities (Admission Days, etc.)
- Counsels students on a variety of academic and personal matters. Supports retention efforts.
- Serves as a designated member of institutional committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
