The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic for our Operations department. The Refrigeration Mechanic works closely with the Senior Manager, Crafts & Facilities Services of Operations at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
This position performs journey level refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation tasks in accordance with standard trade practices
As needed this position is performing general building maintenance and repair work
Supervisory Responsibilities: technical supervision of assistants, helpers and outside contractors as determined by the supervisor. Acts as project lead
Diagnoses operating malfunctions and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning systems
Tests, charges, repairs and adjusts hermetic type refrigeration units and ice machines
This position has the following requirements:
Completion of a heating, ventilation, air condition(HVAC) mechanic apprenticeship program- OR – Five years of experience in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of commercial and domestic heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning systems involving modulating and safety controls, thermostats, humidifiers and duct stats, one year of which must have been at the journey-level and have included the installation and repair of central multi-zone forced air or water heating and/or cooling systems
High school diploma, GED or equivalent required
Two years’ experience in general building maintenance and repair involving a variety of minor carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting and plumbing work preferred.
Must have a working knowledge of the building and safety codes related to their craft
An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Universal Technician Certificate in compliance with Federal license requirements as provided in Chapter V, section 608
Heavy Equipment: Must be able to operate heavy equipment including scissor lifts, aerial work platforms and forklifts.
Shop Tools: Must have experience with shop tools, stationary shop equipment and hand tools.
A valid California Driver License and a Personal Automobile Liability Insurance or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation needed to carry out job related essential functions.
Licensed Journeyman in related field required.
