RAICES, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services and education to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas, seeks to hire a full-time staff attorney who will represent individuals pursuing benefits or seeking relief under the Immigration and Nationality Act. This position is grant funded and is located in Corpus Christi, TX.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Represent individuals on affirmative applications for immigration relief;
Represent individuals in removal defense proceedings, including individuals subject to an ICE detainer, with a focus on rural residents in counties in the Coastal Bend region affected by Hurricane Harvey and in counties participating in 287(g) agreements with ICE;
Provide representation before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the San Antonio, Houston, Port Isabel and/or Pearsall Immigration Courts, or Texas state courts if related to a client’s immigration case;
Assume general administrative responsibilities, including detailed case management, supervision of a legal assistant, and timekeeping;
Other duties as assigned.
J.D. from an accredited law school;
Admission to a state bar and in good standing;
Fluent in Spanish;
Experience in immigration preferred;
Able to travel between Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend Region, San Antonio, Houston, Laredo, Port Isabel and Pearsall.
