What is an Application Services Director?

Reporting to the CIO/CTO, the Application Services Director will guide the development of Central Hudson’s digital workplace and have oversight of IT’s transformation to a service management model. Initially, the individual in this position will supervise the existing Business Intelligence Program, serve as the IT lead on the Enterprise Content Management team, and oversee the rollout of IT Service Management. Over time, it is expected that additional components of the digital workplace and the service desk will report to this individual as these IT initiatives progress.

What does an Application Services Director do?

The Application Services Director champions digital workplace initiatives that support the company’s strategic objectives and promote continuous improvement and business innovation across the organization. The individual in this position is expected to work closely with peers in the IT Business Office, Development and Technical Support as well as the business owners of major applications across the company. The Application Services Director is also responsible for the following:

Supervise the ITSM Lead and oversee the ITSM rollout
Oversee the Business Intelligence Program and supporting partners
Serve as the IT Lead on the Enterprise Content Management team and oversee support partners
Work with IT and business leaders to develop and maintain a multi-year plan to foster a work environment and supporting tools that maximize the effectiveness of individual employees and teams
Advise program owners, project managers and project teams on the best tools and approaches for collaboration
Monitor and test emerging technologies that may enhance the digital workplace service portfolio
What does it take to be an Application Services Director?

Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field)
10+ years of related work experience in business or IT, preferably a combination of both
Ability to guide the development of the digital workplace in an organization that is transitioning from a legacy mainframe environment
Strong understanding of software and hardware technology trends
Experience with strategic plans and roadmaps
Experience with IT service management
Demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgment, assertiveness
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfortability presenting to large groups
Strong leadership and negotiation skills
Experienced user of MS Office toolset (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Valid driver’s license

Master’s degree (preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field)
5+ years of progressive leadership experience leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs
Experience in Energy & Utilities or services industry
Experience with innovation programs and change management
Experience with PPM tools, PlanView (Innotas)
