Description: The Sr. Accountant is responsible for the more complex activities associated with the management and accounting activities that facilitate the flow and reporting of financial information. Typical Duties:

Coordinates and verifies all inflow of data into the general ledger monthly and maintains a journal log of this activity for all entries.

Reviews and Prepares routine journal entries with adequate supporting documentation in an accurate and timely manner.

Prepares accurate and timely financial statements and supporting reports with documentation each month.

Reviews reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts in a timely and accurate manner (by the end of the following month, and all reconciling items cleared properly within 60 days after reconciliation date).

Reviews assigned balance sheets accounts from various other Departmental Accountants monthly for timeliness and accuracy.

Maintains good communication with various departments to facilitate accurate and timely preparation of the monthly financial reports.

Designs/formats/maintains general ledger reports and maintains accounts in general ledger software.

Reviews the monthly accrual process with cost centers monthly and at year end.

Reviews the “Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax” form 990.

Leads the Year End Inventory planning and preparation for the JPS Network.

Assumes leadership in the absence of the department manager.

Maintains an ongoing review process in areas of responsibilities to assure the accuracy of financial records.

Prepares and maintains written procedures for assigned areas.

Assists the internal and external auditors in the preparation of the Annual Network Financial Audit.

Performs other accounting activities and special projects as assigned.

Participates in the General Accounting cross training program.

Performs other related job duties as assigned.


Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited University.

5 plus years of experience in accounting and/or finance.

5 plus years of hands-on experience with complex, computer applications in a corporate, computer network environment.

Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited University.

5 plus years of work experience in a hospital and/or health insurance preferred.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
CPA License.

5 plus years training in network-based, computer applications including, but not limited to, spreadsheets, data bases and word processing.
