The Denver City’s Attorney’s Office seeks an entry level Assistant City Attorney for the Municipal Operations Section.
Municipal Operations provides full service legal representation and advice to City officials, agencies and employees in the areas of general municipal law, environmental regulation and compliance, construction contracts, procurement, government contracting, tax, municipal finance, bankruptcy, real estate, land use and commercial litigation. This section offers a steady stream of clients with an incredible variety of legal needs.
The Denver City's Attorney's Office is one of the largest law firms in Colorado, with over 230 attorneys and staff members comprised of paralegals, victim advocates, and other support and supervisory staff members. We currently seek an attorney with legal experience in finance law, affordable housing, and government contracting to support a variety of large projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting City agencies with negotiating agreements including agreements related to affordable housing, and advising City agencies and officials.
The responsibilities for this position include:
Advising and counseling City officials and agencies regarding the City’s government contracting, municipal law, finance, representing and advising City officials with regard to the Public Utilities Commission and other related topics.
Negotiating transactions and drafting contracts,
Drafting and interpreting City ordinances, rules and regulations, and charter requirements.
Performs routine legal research and assists with research of more complex legal problems, under the supervision of a higher-level attorney.
Assists attorneys working in specialized areas with litigation, research and related activities.
Assists in drafting memoranda, motions, briefs and pleadings.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

While the full pay range of this Job Classification is $74,426.00 - $119,082.00. our target hiring salary for this position is between $74,426.00 - $96,754.00 depending on education, experience and qualifications.
The preferred candidates will be attorneys who have:
Experience/knowledge in Public Financing, Property Tax, Government contracting and Municipal law experience.
A strong commitment to public service.
Strong written and oral advocacy skills’.
Strong problem-solving skills.

Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence degree or Bachelor of Laws degree.
License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court at the time of application or possession of license from U.S. states that have a reciprocity agreement with the state of Colorado, excluding the following states: California, Delaware, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, Rhode Island, and South Carolina.
