As a leader within the AMBS&E Media Group, the Atlanta Falcons Vice President of Football Communications will play a key role in building, enhancing and protecting the reputation of the Atlanta Falcons brand and football team while helping drive business results through day-to-day management of the team’s key media and communications functions.

S/he will be a relationship builder, serving as a media relations strategist and communications expert for Falcons’ leadership and players, including the head coach and general manager. This high-profile, fast-paced and challenging opportunity requires strong communications leadership and organization skills in order to set a clear vision for the football team, build detailed media relations and messaging strategies, manage day-to-day media relationships and bring collaborative thinking to the entire organization. S/he will play a key role in preparing athletes and executives for successful, authentic interactions with local and national media, as well as fans and other important audiences.
The role requires an innovative mindset, passion for football, ability to deliver new ways of thinking and approaching the communications function, and the ability to build relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
The AMBS&E Media Group is an innovative group of storytellers combining the football communications and digital team within the Atlanta Falcons and Mercedes-Benz Stadium businesses. With a mission to create a stronger, more energized, connected and informed fan base, both Communications and Digital Media become indispensable and central components to connect with our media and our fan base, both locally and nationally. Within the AMBS&E Media Group, the new VP of Football Communications will work in tandem with the Falcons Digital team, reporting to the VP, AMBS&E Brand Strategy.
Deep knowledge and understanding of the NFL, the game, and the football calendar.
Work together with the VP of Brand Strategy to develop and drive the football and brand communications vision, as well as media relations strategy for the team.
Lead the development of strategic annual communications plans and daily messaging that align with team, brand and organizational goals.
Build and strengthen relationships with local and national media, as well as internal stakeholders.
Provide a forward-looking approach to Falcons communications strategies with strong ability to develop and pitch stories.
Proactively develop authentic, innovative team and brand stories in order to build brand equity and team reputation while engaging critical audiences including media, athletes, season ticket members, associates, etc.
Provide day-to-day leadership of the Falcons football communications staff.
Collaborate with the club’s senior leadership, including the VP of Brand Strategy, AMB Group SVP / Chief Communications Officer, President, General Manager and Head Coach on both football and brand communications matters related to the team.
Day-to-day management of all communications and media related functions pertaining to the head coach, general manager, players/team and football calendar.
Provide regular media schedules, messaging documents and briefings for the head coach, general manager, players and coaches.
Oversight of all communications functions related to: game day, combine, draft/free agency, training camp, post season, transactions, announcements, etc.
Knowledge and understanding of digital media and marketing strategy as well as the importance of connected storytelling efforts.
Work collaboratively with internal content teams (digital / social / marketing / creative) to help proactively tell our story.
Ensure integration with all Atlanta Falcons departments, as well as other leaders across the Blank Family of Businesses.
Effectively manage football communications budget.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIRED SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
Looking for 10+ years' experience in related fields. Significant NFL public relations / communications experience is strongly desired but other communications / media related experience should apply.
Demonstrated experience managing teams and developing talent.
Proven excellence in writing skills and creative thinking.
Demonstrated ability to network and influence media with proven background in proactively pitching media.
Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment across communications, media relations, digital and social media, marketing, community relations and other related team functions.
Proven track record of success in: strategic planning; counseling senior leadership on communications issues; local and national media relations; managing a wide array of communications challenges and opportunities at the same time; collaboration with other marketing disciplines in planning and execution; leading and developing high-performing teams; crisis management; and budget oversight.
Strong understanding of communications / media / digital measurement.
Clear understanding of NFL rules and game management.
