Position Overview
The Specimen Processing Exception Handler Lead provides leadership support to the Exception Handling team. This role acts as a subject matter expert in the exception handling processes and provides additional leadership support in all lab processes. This role follows all laboratory policies and procedures and maintains accurate data reporting practices to ensure consistent and diligent execution of specimen processing. This role supports the Specimen Processing Supervisor or designee and shares the responsibility of ensuring the Specimen Processing Department operates effectively. The functions of this position are performed under the guided direction of the Specimen Processing Supervisor or designee.

Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform primary responsibilities listed below completely, timely and accurately:

Assign daily and weekly responsibilities to the Exception Handling team.
-
Monitor specimen problem reports and resolve issues.
-
Maintain documentation of problems and problem resolutions following Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
-
Review and update exception handling standard operating procedures (SOP) to accurately reflect current processes.
-
Maintain adequate supply of exception handling materials and equipment in the lab.
-
Organize and co-lead routine exception handling meetings as needed.
-
Identify and implement improvements to the exception handling workflow.
-
Support and occasionally co-lead cross-functional initiatives across multiple departments.
-
Support operational initiatives including, but not limited to, quality and process improvements, SOP development, department inspections and audits.
-
Handle and dispose of all specimens following standard precautions and applicable safety policies.
-
Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.

Understand potential exposure to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, heating, and freezing elements.

Tolerate the handling of bodily fluids and solids (e.g., urine and feces).

Ability to travel to and work at all other sites within the same city, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
-
Must be 18 years of age or older.
-
2+ years of experience working in a laboratory, medical or high throughput environment.
-
General knowledge of CAP, GLP, GDP, CLIA, New York Department of Health (NYDOH), and HIPAA.
-
Demonstrated understanding of laboratory terminology and equipment.
-
Proficient computer skills to include internet navigation, email usage, and word processing.
-
Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience leading and motivating others, even when not in a position of authority.

Experience working in a laboratory environment doing sample collection, to include working with samples from human, animal, nutritional supplements, food, or pharmaceutical, and collecting, accessioning, labeling, and testing samples, while maintaining sample integrity, following procedures and protocols, and sample collection/handling.

Salary Range:
$41,000.00 - $66,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms, conditions, and eligibility requirements of the applicable plans.
