Wells Fargo Technology sets IT strategy; enhances the design, development, and operations of our systems; optimizes the Wells Fargo infrastructure footprint; provides information security; and enables continuous banking access through in-store, online, ATM, and other channels to Wells Fargo’s more than 70 million global customers.
Enterprise Architecture (EA) teams are the gatekeepers of the Wells Fargo Technology Platform, responsible for thought leadership, technology guidance, standards decisions, and governance of technology throughout the enterprise. As part of the transformative changes occurring at Wells Fargo, EA is transforming its role to include a more active and extensive part in ensuring that the recommendations that are made are carried through to completion and have the continuous support of EA throughout the project life cycle to ensure processes and operational capabilities receive proper architecture leadership.
Technology currently supports a portfolio of around 6,000 applications with majority of applications written in Java and .NET. These 6000 applications are governed by enterprise capabilities such as strategy, risk, policy, compliance, architecture, SDLC and they have been managed across the lines of business respectively. They are enabled by Enterprise Technology Infrastructure that provides compute, storage, network and security services based on ITSM and ITIL respectively. Technology is going through a strategic technology transformation to simplify, streamline and enable technology of the future. This is an interdisciplinary effort that requires all stakeholders to partner seamlessly and drive the execution with efficient and effective use of process, practice and standards respectively.
The Senior Architect will support change initiatives from incubation to operationalization through a defined architecture development process. This will better enable the team’s effectiveness for the transformation of the enterprise from an EA perspective and will assist in achieving our overall team goals. The Senior Architect will adapt their role in a hands-on capacity to produce the best outcome for all key stakeholders while partnering extensively with various key partners including:
Service providing teams (e.g., engineering and infrastructure teams) and service consuming teams (e.g., application development teams within CIO organizations and risk management teams) to develop architecture for CI/CD, Platform/Middleware/Cloud and SRE respectively.
Key stakeholders to identify capabilities across CI/CD, Middleware/Platform/Cloud and SRE competencies and systematically improve them through Agile sprints with a product development mindset.
Fellow domain architects, engineers, technology initiative managers and managing architects to help transform bold new ideas into products and mature them into standards and patterns respectively.
This role will be responsible for defining and building reference architecture with reference implementation across the enterprise domains spanning business architecture, data architecture, application architecture, technical architecture, information security architecture respectively. They will need to apply Secure SDLC (system development lifecycle) standards and enterprise IT standard tools to flesh out reference architecture and reference implementation for emerging and/or refactored capabilities. Starting with a few strategic capabilities this position will iteratively and incrementally refactor and elevate our lines of business practices into enterprise capabilities and enterprise services. Will also ensure adherence to architecture development standards/design patterns, best practices and controls spanning CI/CD, Middleware/Platform/Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) respectively.
Key responsibilities include:
Partner with key stakeholders to flesh out the architectural approach collaboratively and then lead the solutioning with an Agile, hands-on engineering mindset with relentless focus on quality and timely delivery.
Contribute to architecture and design in fleshing out the full stack architectural capabilities spanning the UX/UI capabilities, Services and API mapping to middleware, BPM and workflow capabilities, Cloud, data modeling and management and ultimately on the runtime platform. The above will be done in concert with the EA and ITforIT framework with a strong emphasis of CI/CD and applying this to enterprise team member’s experience.
Identify strategic innovations across CI/CD, Middleware/Platform/Cloud and SRE from industry and advocate their awareness and adoption as appropriate.
Collaborate with other key Wells Fargo organizations to deliver standardized services from inception to retirement.
Influence various levels from developer to senior leadership to ensure compliance across governance, process and controls related to all architecture aspects of IT standards and data.
Ensure that technology standards are always closely aligned to serve all of the enterprise needs. This accountability will ensure enhancement of our Risk & Regulatory practices and continuously assess technology standards and strategy to protect Wells Fargo’s technology environment while also improving our efficiency and effectiveness to deliver Wells Fargo products to market faster and with fewer errors.
Collaborate, interact, and lead both directly and indirectly at the CTO and Group Architect levels level to ensure all standards, policy, control points and governance are well defined and measured for its success.
Follow appropriate enterprise processes and governance where applicable (e.g. CREST, Architecture Alignment Assessments, Technology Adoption Processes, Standards, Enterprise Project Methodology)
Develop solution architectures for the Service Management, Risk & Regulatory data applications owned by Enterprise Data & Analytics.
Assess enterprise, line of business, and staff group architectures, strategies, roadmaps and designs for potential alignment opportunities.
Practice a data-driven and KPI based approach to institutionalize continuous improvement of IT practices.
Synthesize, document and present findings.
Collaborate with divisions sponsoring initiatives to optimize investment decisions.
Create and maintain the process and practices to develop reference architecture and reference implementation reliably and repeatedly.
Develop the insights and intuition to identify duplicative and diverging practices across the enterprise and motivate the communities to converge and standardize.
