Job Description

  • Responsible for answering/directing calls accurately. This includes calls from parking garage, elevators, and TDD. Gives directions and other requested information to callers.
  • Voice paging authorized personnel; paging via beeper and connecting to wireless phones.
  • Monitors alarms mounted in switchboard area. Responsible for answering emergency line and activating proper emergency teams. Monitors parking garage and healing gardens intercoms. Monitors simplex fire alarm panel located at switchboard in accordance with policies and procedures. Contacts appropriate Plant Operations and Security personnel as needed.
  • Courteously gives directions and appropriate information to visitors and others arriving at the Information Desk. Acts as OR hostess as needed.
  • Make copies of census report. Prints copies of alpha census for information desk, Volunteer Services and other departments as needed.
  • Keeps list of doctors with office address, office phone #, and home phone # for emergency use. When office/answering service cannot be reached, operator contacts the doctor at home to advise him of the situation.
  • Accurately contacts on-call personnel as needed
  • Troubleshoots, performs basic maintenance and replaces telephones and replenishes switchboard stock as needed. Follows appropriate guidelines in the event of a telephone system failure.
  • Ensures that any documents containing patient information are discarded daily in an appropriate manner in order to adhere to “confidentiality”.
  • Be familiar with every function available to them through Meditech and MediCall.
  • Read the notes of the day on a daily basis. Responsible for reading hospital publications such as Weekly Scoop, Spirit etc.
  • responsible to for documenting occurrences on the back of the daily call sheet including passing on vital information (or changes) to the appropriate operators and/or supervisor
  • Make sure that the call schedule for the next day is completed and readily available. Follow through completely when given changes for call sheet, schedules, etc (changes are not to be left on post-it notes). Make sure we receive Endo, OR,& PACU call sheets. Check daily with CCL for changes to their schedules.
  • Monitors access to hospital after 9:30pm, aided by camera.
  • Accurately enters information in all .code /emergency/plant ops log books.
  • Dispatches security department, plant operations, valet and spiritual care.
  • Be able to make informed decisions about referral action when confronted with emergency situation (i.e. when a caller does not know what action is required).
  • Advise Access when patient is only listed in In-patient directory and have them change the directory disclosure to include patient in the Patient directory.
  • Change out beepers when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Responsible for locating and appropriately utilizing as well as making changes to on call schedules in MediCall including Res-Que(ED rotation).
  • Performs daily check and confirmation of Interventional Cardiologist , alarm panels and walkie talkie.
