The Corporate/Development Accounting department is responsible for all Corporate financial reporting and general accounting functions including the monthly closing cycle, preparation of management and GAAP reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, and internal controls as well as the accounting function for all development stage projects including monthly draw preparation, development budget monitoring, and cost certification workpaper preparation.
The Assistant Controller's role is to assist the Controller in various responsibilities including preparation of monthly and weekly reports, monthly financial statements, monthly forecasting and annual budgeting, job cost oversight, and other duties as may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end closing including preparation of adjustments and audit schedules
Review account analyses to ensure proper support and compliance with related GAAP requirements
Work with auditors to resolve open corporate issues in a timely manner
Responsible for the reconciliation of general ledger data with operating systems
Maintain and update Recurring Journals
Review & record development project closings
Prepare and consolidate monthly income statement, balance sheet and supporting schedules
Distribute cash and/or accrual basis financial reporting information and ensure all reporting deadlines are met
Prepare and analyze monthly actual results versus budget/forecast; explain variances
Prepare special financial analysis and reports on an as needed basis
Work with various departments to assist in the annual development of the 3 year budget
Continuously monitor the budget and assist in monthly update/reforecast
Review monthly ledger/draw reconciliations
Assist job cost accountants, project managers and various other interested parties in resolving questions/open issues that relate to development projects
Coordinate cost certification schedules
Review development accounting financial and cost certifications for accuracy
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, work independently, and handle/resolve various problems in a timely manner.
Ability to read and interpret partnership and loan agreements, communicate effectively with several departments at once and have good internal and external customer service skills.
Knowledge of GAAP.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Facility with relevant software (e.g. MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Timberline)
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in accounting.
3+ years' experience in public accounting &/or real estate industry.
CPA designation preferred
Work will be primarily based in company headquarters (St. Louis). We are located in downtown St. Louis near Kiener Plaza and City Garden in the Gallery 720 building (formerly Laclede Gas Tower).
