Building Envelope Consultants and Scientists, LLC (BECS) is a growing consulting engineering company focused on all aspects of the building enclosure. With four locations in DC, Baltimore, Northern Virginia, and Raleigh, BECS’s team of registered engineers and architects, building scientists, and roofing/waterproofing consultants provide building envelope solutions, structural engineering, restoration and historic preservation consulting, and performance testing.

BECS is currently seeking experienced Senior Consultants and Project Managers to join our growing team at each of our office locations. These positions will be involved in building envelope investigations and testing, the design of building envelope repairs, bidding support, and subsequent construction quality control observations, as well as, peer review of building envelope designs, and commissioning.

The ideal candidates must be assertive, show initiative, highly organized, detail-oriented, ethical, able to travel, have great communication skills, motivated, excellent time management skills, willing to learn, and possess superior administration skills. Additionally, the candidate must be willing to network, build new relationships, and be active in the pursuit of obtaining new and recurring clients.

Senior Consultant/Senior Project Manager: 10+ years’ proven professional experience in building enclosure investigations, design, and solid project management experience. A Minimum B.A.E. in Architectural Engineering, B.S. in Construction Management, Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering is required. P.E. or AIA Registration is preferred.

Project Manager: 5-8 years’ proven professional experience in building enclosure investigations, design, and solid project management experience. A Minimum B.A.E. in Architectural Engineering, B.S. in Construction Management, Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering is required. P.E. or RA/AIA Registration is preferred.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervise work by technicians and draftsmen and other assisting project teams.
  • Able to work on routine projects independently.
  • Assist in engineering, budgeting, scheduling, and client communications.
  • Develop letters, reports, drawings, specifications, and proposals with moderate guidance from supervisor.
  • Conduct field investigations and on-site construction monitoring.
  • Ability to present to client groups and professional organizations.
  • Perform field investigation and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building components.
  • Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition.
  • Required qualifications include: *
  • Interest and enthusiasm in buildings and solving engineering problems.
  • Fearlessness of heights, including climbing ladders and scaffolds and rope access.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills to communicate on the job, and to juries, clients and other professionals.
  • Experience in building construction and investigating building problems, which may include difficulties related to concrete, curtain walls, flooring, glazing, masonry, roofing sealants, waterproofing, wood, windows and building science issues.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
