We are seeking a self-driven Database Engineer / Developer who will support the migration of an application suite from a traditional Oracle transactional database + data warehouse/business intelligence environment to a modern multi-tier web architecture with microservices, data pipeline, big data, enterprise messaging, and advanced reporting and business intelligence. Data technologies include MongoDB (NoSQL database), Elasticsearch, Spark streaming, Kafka messaging, PostgreSQL, and the Hadoop ecosystem. This position involves the migration of data from legacy business systems, the integration of data across interfacing medical and supply-chain systems, and the design of advanced real-time and batch data solutions for a new target system.

This position supports a long-term initiative to expand a supply-chain / logistics suite of systems to support a new global user community and expand system functionality and data integration with other supply-chain, financial, asset visibility, and medical systems in a rapidly modernizing technology environment. The applicant will work with our data architects, software engineers, business analysts, database administrators, and customers to help deploy an enterprise business system in a continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) DevOps environment.

Minimum Requirements:

**Must be a US citizen and must have the ability to obtain a U.S. government clearance at the ‘Public Trust’ level (e.g., NAC-LC, T3 investigation)

  • Experience developing or deploying solutions with either MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Spark, Kafka, or Hadoop
  • Experience automating tasks through programming and scripting (e.g., Python, Java, Bash, Powershell)
  • Experience extracting data from diverse databases and file structures (e.g., JSON, XML, CSV, TXT, unstructured) to leverage in a different target system
  • Proficient with identifying data migration requirements, developing repeatable data conversion scripts and mappings, identifying and implementing data cleanup routines, and validating data accuracy and usability
  • Must have a strong desire to drive toward data standardization (industry-driven, open standards, enterprise-wide), employ data management best practices and open source software
  • Experience with data architecture and associated tools (ERwin, ER/Studio) and databases (Oracle, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Hadoop, PostgreSQL)
  • Requires full comprehension of SQL, cardinality, levels of granularity, normalization vs. de-normalization, and database and tool optimization techniques
  • Experience with writing technical specifications and other technical documents
  • Collaborative team player with flexibility and a focus on customer service
  • Requires strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills

Desired Skills / Experience:

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar IT degree
  • Experience with databases in a microservices / API environment
  • Experience with the Department of Defense (DoD), Veterans Affairs (VA), Logistics, Supply-Chain, Medical, Facilities, Equipment, or Financial systems and data
  • Experience providing database development or engineering support for databases in a cloud environment (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure)
  • Posses a professional understanding of data management best practices (e.g., Data Management Association (DAMA))
  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum software development environment
