SCAD seeks a full-time associate chair of photography to provide students with the fluency to express their ideas and develop their personal vision. The photography program emphasizes conceptual development, technical excellence, foundational skills, and coursework tailored to suit student interests and professional goals, with opportunities for commercial, documentary, fine art, hybrid, and new-media investigation.
As associate chair of the photography department, you will direct, coordinate, and evaluate the department and manage the day-to-day administration. You will develop curriculum, teach classes annually as assigned, and oversee the scheduling of classes. You will work alongside the admission department to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD and to the department. You will also foster interdepartmental collaboration to enhance the reputation of SCAD in academic and professional circles. As department associate chair, you will provide professional development opportunities and evaluate professors, develop a strategic plan for your department that aligns with SCAD and School of Communication Arts goals, and review student evaluations, service and professional development, and contributions to the department’s goals. You will work closely with the chair of photography to coordinate the program so that students have maximum access to classes and facilities.
The ideal candidate should be innovative, energetic, and display the highest level of personal and professional integrity. The candidate demonstrates proven leadership skills, the ability to motivate students and faculty to think creatively and critically, and has experience working with students, alumni, and faculty of diverse backgrounds. The candidate should also be well versed in the history and critical theory of the discipline. Experience with curriculum development and student learning and academic program assessment is essential, as are outstanding interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
