The primary purpose and function of the lead veterinarian is to deliver the daily medical operations and veterinary care within the confines of the mobile unit. The lead veterinarian should strive to deliver the highest quality veterinary care and an exceptional client experience.
The lead veterinarian will be responsible for partnering with the Manager Mobile Veterinary and the Digital Health team to create a viable business model for a mobile truck. Due to the self-contained nature of the mobile unit and the need to drive, this role is an expansion and deviation from the Veterinary role.
Lead veterinarian will manage additional veterinary staff to ensure the medical operations of the mobile unit run effectively and efficiently.

Partner with the Manager Mobile Veterinary to manage the mobile unit as role models and champions of the brand to provide consistent high quality care and exceptional service to the most pets and clients and to maximize efficiency, productivity and profitability. Train the team on guidelines and practices and supervise associates to ensure compliance.
Establish trust and gain the confidence and compliance of clients through effectively delivering appropriate preventive care, performing complete diagnostic workups, developing thorough treatment plans, communicating home care instructions, and planning follow-up visits.
Assimilate information gathered through effective history taking, physical examination and diagnostic workup to arrive at an appropriate and effective clinical decision.
Practice evidence-based medicine and preventive care when data or guidelines exist, using sound judgment when they do not.
Practice veterinary medicine in a manner compliant with the State Veterinary Practice Act, Federal and/or State Controlled Substance laws and Banfield Code of Ethics, along with appropriate medical record documentation; ensure the hospital team maintains complete medical records that meet practice quality control guidelines.
Advocate for preventive care.
Effectively communicate diagnosis and treatment plan to veterinary medical team and client.
Prescribe and administer drugs and vaccines as appropriate.
Perform surgery on pets as necessary for the treatment of pets within established protocols, using standard medical instruments and equipment.
Promote the safety of pets, clients and associates by ensuring the mobile truck team is utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard practice guidelines, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and laboratory areas.
Effectively create and maintain veterinarians’ schedules and work with Manager Mobile Veterinary to schedule associates to meet client needs according to established guidelines, while proactively planning time off and CE scheduling.
Partner with the Manager Mobile Veterinary to deliver projected financial results for mobile unit. Responsible for the development of technical, medical skills for veterinary assistants/technicians.
Partner with Digital Health team to execute mobile unit objectives, goals, strategies and measurements (OGSMs).
Participate in Digital Health team micro-test meetings, discussions, and initiatives, as they pertain to the goals of the mobile unit.

Ensure compliance with all practice policies and procedures and with all local, state and federal laws
Will be responsible to act as Radiation Safety Officer for mobile unit as defined by the mobile unit’s Radiation Binder
Context and Scope
The mobile clinic will visit clients’ homes, as well as central locations (retirement communities, office complexes, retail locations, etc.) to provide veterinary care.
The Lead Veterinarian will partner with the Manager Mobile Veterinary to ensure proper medical supplies are on hand to perform duties needed during daily operations. The Lead Veterinarian - Mobile will also be required to partner with the Manager Mobile Veterinary to manage the daily schedule.

Education & Professional Qualification

Required Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board.

Preferred: Experience in the operations of a mobile veterinary unit
Required: Comfort in operating a 26 foot vehicle. Valid driver’s license
Preferred: Health care background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.).
Special Working Conditions
Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
