The Farm Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing daily
farm activities (both field and non-field) and managing employees to fit accordingly in
collaboration with the Farm Manager.
Specific Duties will include:
I. Farm Management & Farm Activities – oversee farm activities in collaboration
with farm manager to plan and schedule daily activities that need to be
conducted by farm associates. This could involve anything from deciding
which piece of equipment to work on in the winter to which field/variety
should be harvested/planted during the growing season.
II. Records Management – help to manage and input various farm records and
research data. This will involve working with the Administrative Assistant and
Farm Manager to insure all applicable records are entered into Linkfresh on a
III. Research Trials – help collect data from our research trials as well as help
organize, layout, and implement our field research plots.
IV. Storage Management – help manage/control our storage buildings under the
Storage Manager. This will involve walking storage bins several times a week
when they are full ensuring that all BMPs are being followed and equipment is
V. Work Orders and Inventory of Parts – Assist Shop Manager to oversee the
completion of work orders for all repairs to farm equipment. Would also
involve the ordering of parts for farm trucks and field equipment as needed.
VI. Farm Mission – perform assigned tasks as requested to help the Farm Team
accomplish the overall Farm Mission.
Physical demands will vary according to the season and type of work being performed.
However, the employee must be able to complete the following,
1. Walk in fields across rough terrain for an extended period of time.
2. Work in hot (>90°) and cold (< 40°) temperatures.
3. With a spade, dig several 7’ yield check samples in a day, which could include
4. Carry 75+ lbs for an extended period of time.
5. Walk up 20’ of stairs to access our catwalks in storage buildings.
Education & Experience Requirements
I. Experience in farming or crop management systems. Minimum 5 years work
experience on a farm and/or relevant experience.
II. Potato farm production experience or agronomy related degree a plus.
III. Experience in the supervision of employees.
IV. Computer skills to maintain inventory and work order records. This should
include use of excel, word, and outlook from the Microsoft office software.
