## Product Strategist

As a Product Strategist you will draw on business, technology, software, and communication skills to provide strategic vision for the evolution of Pearson VUE’s service offering and focus for our innovation agenda. To be successful in this role you will need to exercise Business savvy in market analysis as well as commercialization planning.

This role will provide ample collaboration opportunities with a well-oiled Software development organization ensuring that great ideas are brought to action through passionately selling and cultivating new ideas and direction. In doing so, you will have the opportunity to represent our strategy to clients, the market, and senior Pearson leaders.

The Product Strategist (PS) interfaces with key business stakeholders, and in doing so will require a profound understanding of computer-based testing and professional development to define product direction. The PS reports directly to the Director of Product Strategy and Architecture, working collaboratively with a team of other Product Strategists and Enterprise Architects.

This position is responsible to develop product strategies and a strategic roadmap enhancing the service offering within the constraints of the business's financial capacity and to sell the strategic roadmap to the broader organization. Tactically, the PS does so by partnering closely with sales, marketing, external clients, prospects, program management, enterprise architecture, and software development, the Product Strategist performs the activities required to understand the market and product requirements, prepare the business and product plans, and provide sponsorship and support to the proposals within the organization.

We have been heavily influenced by the product development ideas within the Lean Start-Up and Customer Development movements. We leverage these principles in both our innovation agenda and standard product management.

The Product Strategist will:
Strategic Thinking

Operate as a strategic thinker and seek to understand the marketshare of revenue/growth opportunities and the needs of clients and business prospects.

+ Be responsible for understanding and articulating the market conditions and opportunities (both Internal and External) and define the product direction in response to those market dynamics

+ Understand the internal drivers of the business (performance, reliability, security, etc.)

+ Articulate the vision and value proposition of new products, business offerings, and market entrants

+ Create Business Plans and Product Plans that describe the value proposition, revenue projects, product strategy, product requirements, implementation risks and mitigations, and financial models including cost, pricing, and sales assumptions and profit projections

+ Develop a roadmap that drives the evolution of our service offerings over the time span of the Pearson Long Range Strategic Planning Process

Provide Operational Guidance

+ Provide operational and technical guidance/structure by possessing an intimate understanding of departmental inter-dependencies, building key relationships, and appreciating scale, architectural consistency.

+ Work with the Technology Organization to ensure the effectiveness of the solutions to roadmap-driven development and other tactical developments

+ Ensure the architectural consistency of the way the system is designed

+ Ensure the system is consistent with the long range vision

Organizational Communication & Stakeholder Management

+ Ensure that everyone in the organization understands the direction we are moving the systems, the development activities that are planned, the rationale for these developments, and the expected timeframes for completion through effective communication (written, verbal, presentations).

+ Serve as a resource and/or mentor to key technologists across VUE ensuing knowledge transfer and appropriate support at all levels. Successful candidates will do this by supporting the respective teams as a SME but by also building future strategists and product advocates.


Required Education & Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree is required (advanced degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science or Engineering preferred)

+ 5-10 years of product execution is required, preferably product management and strategy experience, and/or software development and management experience.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
+ Direct customer interface experience (working with client directly on project tasks; managing client expectations)

+ Experience in establishing and documenting a business cases

+ Demonstrated business product strategy expertise with a record of developing and implementing successful product strategies.

+ High-stakes testing industry experience preferred but not required.
