The Aloft Charleston is seeking a highly skilled and charismatic Bartender. The Bartender is integral to the guest experience. The ideal candidate will provide beverage services to the guests of the property and be highly focused on providing superior service.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the sanitation of the bar, kitchen, and food preparation areas.
- Follow safe food handling and service practices at all times.
- Work closely with the food and beverage supervisor and sales staff to service the meeting rooms, events with catering and any other needs.
- Practice safety throughout the work shift by removing/correcting any hazards identified.
- Collecting and cleaning dirty dishes and/or glasses during the shift.
- Follow all Lexima/Brand safety practices such as: wearing personal protective equipment, reading chemical warning labels, and all other safe work practices.
- Responsible for both bar and food service set up and break down.
- Food presentation meets Lexima/Brand standards.
- Be attentive at the bar and check with guests frequently.
- Handle meeting room catering needs.
- Frequently check with contact person of meeting to see if anything else is needed.
- Must be able to operate juice and milk machines, commercial refrigerators and freezers, commercial dishwasher, and vacuum cleaner.
- Maintain the kitchen in an orderly and clean fashion.
- Wash dirty dishes as soon as possible.
- Restock any necessary items during service hours.
- Monitor both food and bar inventories and maintain appropriate levels.
- Comply at all times with Lexima/Brand compliance standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Participate in all-employee meetings, events and other functions required by management.
- Charging guests for purchases and following cash handling procedures
- Be familiar with all policies, hotel rules and hotel terminology.
- Attend meetings as required by management.
- Perform any other duties as requested by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Shifts will vary depending on events both around the area and through the hotel.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Food handling certificate in states or counties where required.
- TIPs training preferred (Training will be provided).
- Previous bartending experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience in cashier duties.
- Attention to cleanliness and safety.
- Patience and customer-oriented approach.
- Excellent people skills with a friendly attitude.
- Must be fluent in English.
- Must be able to understand and follow directions, guidelines and work objectives as set forth by the Director of Guest Services, Director of Sales, and/or General Manager.
- Must be able to understand potential hazards and subsequent procedures involved in working around commercial chemical agents.
- Must be capable of self-supervision and have the ability to manage time accordingly in order to complete the required work in a pre-specified amount of time.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, or hear.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and pushing and/or pulling approximately 50lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to stand during the entire 8-hour shift.
