To be an effective team member of the Life Underwriting Department. To provide underwriting services for the department and Field Force, utilizing company approved solution methods and underwriting guidelines. To provide training and supervision of the Underwriting staff. To ensure timely and sound underwriting decisions for the entire unit. To regularly evaluate, improve and streamline the underwriting functions.
This position allows work from home 4 days per week.
Underwrite and process the larger and/or more complex life insurance applications and determine facultative reinsurance liabilities based on established rules. Maintain approval authority up to $3,000,000.
Correspond by mail, e-mail, telephone and terminal with clients, agents, doctors, paramedical facilities, reinsurers, service laboratories, commercial inspection companies and other organizations to gather information necessary to properly underwrite risks.
Read industry publications and regularly participate in industry educational programs in order to remain current with changes in risk selection, efficient underwriting techniques, and work flows. Assist in the analysis of underwriting workflows, and effectiveness of underwriting techniques and tests.
Required: Bachelor’s degree required with focus on insurance, business, finance or medical field, or equivalent ten-plus years underwriting experience may be considered. Financial underwriting experience required. Experienced computer usage and proven skills in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software required. Medical terminology knowledge required. Willingness to pursue continuing job related training and education required. Designations in FLMI, CLU, FALU, LLIF and/or ChFC preferred, or actively being pursued required.
Preferred: Minimum seven years life underwriting experience or equivalent preferred. Keyboarding skills of 40 wpm with accuracy preferred.
