General Summary of Position
Job Summary:
MedStar Health has a unique opportunity for a Transplant Coordinator/Registered Dietitian to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. As a Transplant Coordinator, you will serve as a key contact, advocate, and member of the patient’s transplant team.
Primary Duties:
- Handles intake calls from potential transplant candidates and/or referring physicians.
- Assess patients for placement on the transplant waiting list
- Coordinates evaluations with the patient/family and appropriate members of the hospital, transplant team, primary care physician, cardiologist, and clinical consultants.
- Facilitates the evaluation of both pre- and post-transplant patients by interfacing with referring physicians, Transplant hepatologists, Transplant nephrologists, Transplant surgeons, scheduling coordinators, consultants, insurance coordinators and social workers.
- Has primary responsibility for the planning, implementation and evaluation of this process.
- Communicates with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) to maintain an accurate and current patient waiting list.
- Participates in clinical rounds, meetings, conferences, consultations and educational programs designed to increase knowledge and to improve patient care and staff performance; serve as a consultant to physicians and staff members regarding services in the specialty area (e.g., development of critical pathway).
- Educates patient and family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness. Schedules in services and education sessions with patients, families, and healthcare professional
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, nursing, or dietetics required.
- 3-4 years professional clinical experience as a registered dietitian, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant preferred.
- Candidates with at least 1 year of previous transplant-related experience preferred.
- RD - Registered Dietician required OR Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia (for those holding a BSN degree) required.
This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $123,260
