As a Database Administrator for the Federal Programs team located in Reston, Virginia, you will performance tasks as a member of the DBA team for a national biometrics system. You will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and performance of databases and guarantee that data is stored securely and optimally; working with minimal supervision. In addition, you will work at the prime contractor site (Arlington, VA) once clearance is granted. You also must be able to transfer or obtain and maintain a public trust clearance for the Department of Homeland Security and you must be a U.S. citizen.

A week in the life of a Database Administrator:

  • You will monitor the performance of databases for a national biometric system.
  • You will ensure 24/7 availability, performance, backup, recovery and security of the databases.
  • You will troubleshoot, isolate, and fix database production issues.
  • You will design and implement database infrastructure, including performance monitoring, capacity planning, and automation of database related processes.
  • You will develop Oracle scripts, DBMS jobs, stored procedures and functions to replicate data to the backup databases, purge old data from log tables.
  • You will work directly with customers and provide technical assistance and support when needed.
  • You will independently trouble shoot system issues and establish call bridges with appropriate personnel to ensure the databases restored to proper operating condition and all efforts are documented from start to closure.
  • You will support deployment activities and perform software upgrades and deployments.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • To succeed at this job, you must have: UNIX and Windows experience and experience with Oracle 11g/12c RAC.
  • It would be preferred if you have biometrics industry experience, proficiency in AIX/UNIX and Windows, proficiency in Oracle 12c RAC, ASM and Data Guard, experience in PL/SQL, SQL, Java, C++, shell programming and/or .Net.
  • You must be fluent in English.
  • You must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • We would like someone to join our team who is team oriented, self-motivated, a strong written and verbal communicator, and occasionally willing to work beyond a 40 hour work week.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • We are looking for someone with 2 – 5 years of Oracle database administrator experience.
