Advanced Energy has an immediate opening for a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to support our Industrial business. The FAE is a critical member of the account team, responsible for the technical interface between AE and the customer. We are seeking a team player who will bring their technical expertise to partner with current and prospective customers in order to properly apply and optimize AE technology solutions. In this pivotal role you will work with AE Account Managers and Sales Representatives to develop account plans, frequently interfacing with R&D Engineering, Service, and Product Management teams to deliver technical solutions to the customer. Using your electrical engineering and high voltage power applications knowledge, you will work at customer sites to help architect and implement creative power delivery solutions for a variety of industrial applications. The position is an integral part of AE's efforts to develop and execute plans to secure and defend customer design wins for the company and accelerate AE’s position in the market.

You may have a strong background in the industry and be highly experienced in this type of role, or you may have a good foundation of knowledge and a strong desire to accelerate your growth. We aren’t as concerned with the number of years of experience. We want to find the right person.

1. Align on strategies and tactics with account manager counterparts:
Work with AE account managers, Sales Representatives, R&D Engineering, and Product Management to identify and understand new opportunities leading to revenue and/or market share growth in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives.
2. Define, architect, and ensure successful implementation of AE solutions for customer applications:
Work with key customer contacts to define and document appropriate technical solutions for customer applications, together with Global Applications Technology, R&D Engineering, and Product Management where appropriate. Define and Request AE evaluation materials. Facilitate successful startup, evaluation, and qualification at customer site. Own technical process and engineering relatiionship through qualification.
3. Understand and communicate customer technical issues appropriately within the organization:
When technical issues are identified at the customer site, understand, document, and communicate the issues to the appropriate part(s) of the organization (e.g. Product Management, Quality, Engineering). Actively engage in issue resolution.
4. Provide training and trouble-shooting:
Provide technical product and application training to customers and AE colleagues as needed to demonstrate/promote/optimize the use of AE products. As required, provide troubleshooting services in order to understand, address and communicate product related issues.
This position will be located on the West Coast, preferably in the California Bay Area.
Approximately 80% of time in laboratory/clean room environments at customers and AE working with typical diagnostic equipment, computer technology and customer tools; approxiately 20% of time in typical office environment.
Regular travel around the West Coast will be required as well as occassional travel nationally, and possibly internationally at times.
Position requires strength in the following: verbal and written communication skills (technical and non-technical); technical knowledge / trouble-shooting; planning and organization; and use of laboratory diagnotic equipment.
Industrial High and Low Voltage power supply applications experience
Knowledge of Industrial High and Low Voltage power supply markets
Hands-on technical experience using test and analytical equipment such as:
Spectrum and network analyzers
Computer driven diagnostic equipment
MatLab, Python, and / or other programming
Experience with DC generators and / or RF generators and match networks
Knowledge of thin film and thin film applications
Industrial thin film processing industry experience
Industrial Thermal Measurement and Control applications experience
Bachelor degree in engineering, physics, or related field
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in related field
