Life Sciences Applications Lead (Non IT)

As the Life Science Applications Lead, you will be an SME in Life Science manufacturing processes and have existing established industry relationships you can pull on in your role. You will be responsible for overseeing a team of Applications Engineers in the review of the customer machine and system requirements leading the development of the concept, labour and material costs, and risks towards a competitive winning solution. Your team will be responsible for developing accurate budgets and project proposals, aligning key concept points, sequence of operations and mechanical descriptions to create a custom integrated system to meet the customer requirements. Your role will entail developing processes and tools to maximize efficiencies and customer experience. As well as leading by example, developing confidence and your team’s performance through inspiring leadership.
What would your typical responsibilities look like?
Technical / Applications Engineering
- Work with other Convergix worldwide sites to help communize standards, develop tools, and educate others in Life Science applications.
- Work with and possibly lead brainstorming concept sessions with other AEs and SMEs.
- Identify opportunities to improve our proposal accuracy, proposal efficiency, profitability and revenue.
- Integrate GAMP5 processes and other industry standards into the quotes and our processes.
- Possibly develop and ensure proposals, and cost estimates follow current Applications requirements.
- Ambassador with our customers to ensure we supply innovative, accurate solutions to our customers.
- Identify and manage risks (technical, commercial, legal, etc.) utilizing SME guidance, solid engineering analysis and other information.
- Develop and improve applications engineering tools and processes, resulting in a more efficient Applications group.
- Must be able to represent the Applications department with the customer, Sales, Operations and executive staff. Being able to justify costing and concept decisions.
People / Team Management

- Drive leadership structure, roles and responsibilities within the Applications team
Cross-Functional Contributions
- Work closely with the sales and operations teams on out-of-the-box strategies and concepts to exceed our customers' needs and develop long-term business relationships.
- Responsible for developing the applications team relationships with key internal departments; sales, engineering and management.
- Ensure technical alignment by working closely with the sales, engineering and management teams
What qualifies you for this opportunity?
- In-depth knowledge of Life Science manufacturing processes, including GAMP and validation requirements.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial automation in a commercial Life Science business, focusing on equipment design yielding high-performance results,
- Project management, developing customer relationships, and meeting all project business requirements.
- Able to not only understand and work within a GAMP5 process structure but also help improve current processes and help customers meet the same requirements.
- Deep understanding of high-volume production assembly equipment and the various processes associated with it.
- Experience leading and developing a technical team within a Life Science setting, remote management experience is advantageous.
- In-depth understanding of robotics, automation, control systems, mechanical design for automation, OEE and overall effectiveness of manufacturing equipment
- Understand our business strategy, the customer needs and how to improve our customer’s experience and relationship with us.
- Deep industry knowledge of Life Science equipment, processes, and vendor’s abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills – able to act as a bridge between sales, applications, and operations.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
- Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
