About the team:
Our Finance team is comprised of Corporate Accounting & Reporting, Inventory Control, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Tax, Investor Relations, FP&A and Finance Operations. We’re the number-crunchers who take care of finances; we record, report (privately and publicly) and support our business partners to keep things running!
About the role:
The Director of Accounting Operations will oversee the Accounts Payable, Payroll and Inventory Accounting functions and assist the VP Corporate Controller in the development of organizational strategies for the accounting team in line with corporate objectives. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building scalable business processes for our accounting operations and ensuring our internal control environment is effective. In addition, you will play a key role in the implementation and optimization of systems/processes in order to ensure accurate and efficient month-end close procedures.
Grocery Outlet is growing fast, so this position requires a high energy individual who is driven to succeed with a proven ability to develop people, proactively streamline and improve processes, and collaborate effectively with business partners throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will have prior work experience in an operational accounting role with management responsibility, preferably in both public and private companies. This position reports to the VP Corporate Controller and will have three direct reports (AP Manager, AP Project Manager, Senior Manager of Inventory Accounting) with a total team count of ~35 people.
Manage a team responsible for accounting processes and systems, including Accounts Payable, Payroll and Inventory Accounting.
Develop and communicate clear expectations for team and provide regular feedback to ensure correct direction.
Challenge team to broaden their experience and abilities to support professional development.
Develop bench strength and leadership competencies/plans for team members.
Manage the month-end close process for these two groups, including oversight of account reconciliations, review and preparation of journal entries and review of a monthly close package.
Research, analyze and conclude on technical accounting issues, including the preparation of memorandums regarding the Company's position in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner.
Assist with annual audit and liaise with external auditors.
Review and approval of daily disbursements above a specific amount.
Partner and collaborate with peers and business partners to drive change management, lead process improvement and alignment within the Finance group and cross functionally.
Evaluate existing process flows. Take the lead in changing the processes as appropriate to ensure effectiveness, rigor and control.
Work with the accounting staff, IT and other functional groups to identify, recommend and implement streamlined and automated processes and system improvements.
Lead the implementation of best practices in Accounting team to scale with our growing business.
Manage the optimization of ERP and GL system (Multiview) to drive efficient and effective processes in addition to timely and accurate period close and financial reporting.
Work closely with various departments in day-to-day business activities and recommend practical solutions associated with any contemplated business transactions.
Collaborate with the VP Corporate Controller to develop and maintain the financial accounting policies and standards.
Develop and maintain internal controls over financial reporting for AP and Inventory.
Participate in special projects, system enhancements or other tasks as assigned by the VP Corporate Controller.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a solid understanding of GAAP
CPA with public accounting experience is a plus
More than 15 years of relevant work experience
